Jill Marian Templet

1955 - 2009

DENISON - Services will be held for Jill Marian Templet, who died at her residence on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the parish where she was choir director for more than 20 years. Fr. Martin Yost will be the officiant. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.
Jill was born on Dec. 1, 1955 in Phoenix, Ariz., the daughter of Melvin and Genevieve Templet, and graduated from the University of Northern Arizona. She earned a master's degree in vocal music from the University of Indiana and a doctorate in music from the University of Texas.
For 18 years, Jill was on the faculty of Grayson County College, teaching vocal music to classes and individual students,as well as teaching music appreciation classes and directing the GCC choir which performed at various schools and civic groups throughout the area. She was named outstanding professor midway through her career at GCC. She also directed the area Community Chorus for several years and was an occasional mentor for various high school groups as they prepared for statewide competitions. She was a member of the Sherman Lions Club and of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
Jill is survived by her brother Melvin Templet of Pottsboro and her sister Melanie Johnston of Tucson, Ariz. Her family and friends are especially appreciative of the care given Jill during the past weeks by her friend and former student, Judy Foster.
Jill's ashes will be inurned in the All Saints Chapel columbarium at St. Stephen's. A reception in St. Stephen's parish hall will follow the service.
