John Englutt Obituary

ACHILLE, Okla. - John Forest Englutt Jr., 68, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at his home in Achille, Okla. Family and friends surrounded him with care and loving memories.

He was born on Oct. 5, 1944 to John and Roxie Englutt, and preceded in death by his father, his beloved mother Roxie and her husband Robert Miller, sister Frances Gurley and brother Hoytt.

He is survived by his wife Jerry Kay Englutt; sons: John Englutt III and Theresa of Bells, Texas, Toby Nation of Achille, Jerry Nation and Regina of Denison, Texas; and daughters: Roxie Wilson and Ricky of Bells, Bunnie Strand and Tim Thannisch of Durant, Okla., and Sidney and Nick Freed of Florida. Also loved by John were his sisters Lauretha and Mike Collins, Dorothy and David Anderson, Jan and Billy Grantland, and brother Carl Englutt and wife Nina Lee, all of Denison; and extended family of Brian and T.J. Keeling, Frankie Englutt, Bill and Rose Guenther and Daniel Waggoner.

His scores of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many good friends give testament to one of his several names over the years: he was known as "Papa John."

During the last several years he enjoyed life on his farm and fishing with his brother Carl. One of the most joyous times of his life was the raising of game cocks when he was known as "Handlebar" in reference to his ever-present mustache. John and Jerry owned J bar J Rabbitry and he was the "Rabbit Man." In younger days, he earned the nickname "Easy John" when he ran the Mad Dog Saloon. Before retiring, he was referred to as "Tool Man" from years spent at Lowe's in tool world.

He has had various professions over the years such as military service, bouncer, auctioneer, construction and millwright where he was president of Local 304. John will be remembered for his sense of humor that never failed him. He loved life, family, friends and will be sorely missed by all.

A memorial service will be held at the Billie Mosse Masonic Lodge 1152 Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2:30 p.m., located at 2101 S. Austin Ave. in Denison, Texas.
