Joyce Marie Boykin

1947 - 2016

FORT WORTH - A Celebration of Life for Ms. Joyce Marie Ward-Boykin, age 68, of Fort Worth, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Greater Rising Star Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Morris-Bates Mortuary followed by a wake from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Greater Rising Star.

Joyce was born on October 5, 1947, the sixth of seven children, to parents David and Nomi Lee Ward in Corsicana, Texas. She was raised and educated in Corsicana, and graduated from Jackson High School. She moved to Fort Worth, TX in 1967 where she furthered her education and started her career path by obtaining her cosmetology license. Joyce worked for the Fort Worth State School and retired from there after 20 years of service. Her love for children led her to later work for Child Care Associates for 10 years. Joyce lived in faithful bliss for 30 years to Ira Joe Boykin until his death in 2012. On Thursday, March 3, 2016, Joyce was called home to heaven by her Lord and Savior.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Callie Conley.

She is survived by her only child, Melanie Rogers and husband Percy Rogers; granddaughters Nomisha and husband Christopher, Melshanese and Perquisha; great-grandchildren, Zamiyah, Javion and Caiden; siblings, Virgie Williams, Edna Parrish, Helen Taylor, Calvin Ward and Shirley Adams; and many other relatives.
