Mary Haney Obituary

SHERMAN - Mary Nadell Miller Haney, 92, of Sherman, passed from this life Monday morning, April 13, 2015, at the Homestead of Sherman. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16th. Pastor Leland Samuelson will officiate.

Mary was born August 19, 1922, in Tioga, Texas, to Ollie (Sturch) and Leonard Miller. She had one sister, Faye Alyne, who died at the age of 17. She was married to James Woodrow Haney on August 17, 1940. He preceded her in death November 5, 1969. They were blessed with four daughters, one of whom (Delores Ann) died at birth in 1941.

Mary worked as a beautician while raising her family in Bonham, TX. She moved to Sherman in 1965 and went to work for Texas Instruments, retiring in 1984. Her greatest passion in life was her family. Although she was not a churchgoer during the last years of her life, she had a strong faith and loved the Lord. She was baptized and joined East Sherman Baptist Church in the early 1950's. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking. While she was in a nursing home and in a wheelchair for the last four years of her life, she always apologized for not being able to cook one of her specialties for her visitors.

Her survivors include her three daughters: Judy Pomrenke and husband Gary, of Bonham, TX; Jeanette Caldwell and husband Alan, of Colleyville, TX; and Janice Johnson and husband Dennis, of Sherman, TX; six grandchildren: Harold Kuhn, Mychaele Kuhn, Ashley Carlson, Courtney Colburn, Derek Johnson, and Cassi Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

'Granny', as she was known by everyone, will be remembered for her generous heart, wise words and loving smile. She will greatly missed by all.

This walk down memory lane takes us back 58 years when I became a part of your family. I remember so many things that Judy and I shared in your home during our high school years. We were growing up and you were helping us to develop into strong young women. Thank you for all the help. I'll always remember your laugh. You have been a blessing to many lives that you never realized you touched. Thank you for being my friend and for considering me your friend. Love to you.

Mary Nadell Haney, better known to me as Granny and Granny Grunt to so many. She wasn't my mother but I felt like she was. I love her as if she were. She would often refer to me as her "other" daughter....and she was my friend. She was a woman full of faith who loved her family unconditionally. She was wise and kind. She shared her life stories and she loved life. She was spunky too. She didn't always like everyone, but if she liked you, the sun would rise when you saw her. She was always there to listen and give advice. But it was her faith that stood out the most; it was the foundation on which she lived her life. You couldn't help but feel it when you were with her. She had a special relationship with each of the people she loved. I know because the friendship we shared was very special. She touched each of our lives and she was a true gift and a blessing. I take comfort in knowing she's where she wants to be, sitting at the foot of the throne, watching over her loved ones. I will treasure every memory of my time with her.
I will miss my friend.
I love you Granny.
