Pamela James-Hurley Obituary

Pamela Nell James-Hurley of St. Paul, Texas was born February 15, 1954 in Denison, Texas and won her battle against cancer on May 13, 2017 in Dallas, Texas. She is preceded in death by her father James Melvin James, mother Suda Nell Mayes James, and brother Bert James. Pam is survived by beloved husband Tom Hurley, of St. Paul, Texas, half-sister Louise Cox of Alabama, and many heartbroken friends.
After graduating from Denison High School, Pam graduated from the University of Southeastern Oklahoma with a degree in Business Management. This led to the bright lights of Dallas and an interest in writing. She subsequently earned a degree in journalism from UT Arlington. Pam embarked upon a rewarding career that included freelance writing, reporting for DFW Suburban News, and becoming an online editor for The Dallas Morning News. She also spent several years as owner of a pet sitting business and volunteering in animal rescue organizations.
In 2006, Pam completed the Texas Teaching Fellows alternative certification program in special education. From there, she held positions in Richardson ISD, Coppell ISD, and Highland Park ISD, impacting the lives of countless students in the process. She eventually found her ideal place to serve as technology education teacher at The Winston School.
As Pam found her time with us beginning to wane, she was able to find peace in her relationship with Christ. She and Tom repeatedly expressed gratitude for all who supported them and prayed for them in Pam's last, difficult days.
A memorial service will take place at June 3, 2017 at New Heights Baptist Church, 340 Hooper Road in Wylie, Texas, beginning at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Winston School's "Take a Seat" Campaign.

Tommy, know it's been a difficult year of "firsts" without your sweet Pam. So sorry for your loss. Know too that our assurance is to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and you will one day see her again.

We're so sorry to hear about Pam's passing. She not only took great care of our fur children, but she also connected us with a feral cat caretaker which led to our adoption of a special needs cat. No doubt Sparrow will greet Pam at the Rainbow Bridge!

Tom, I didn't know Pamela, but knew you at North Dallas. I know that you two were together a long time, and I do know how it feels to lose your mate. It becomes easier with time, but she will always remain in a special place in your heart. May God keep you strong during this difficult time and it helps knowing that she is now at rest with no pain. Hugs, Sharron

Dear Tom,

I cannot imagine your feelings right now, so I will talk about my own.

Pam and I have been friends almost since the moment we met at work in the late 1990s. She was a friend, adviser, sometimes-butt-kicker, and great fun on vacation.

I wish I had been able to be there more, these past weeks, to help ease her transition (and support you, Linda, and Hope). I hope she is at peace, now.

But she will remain in my heart, with a very special place, forever.
