ROBIN HOLBERT Obituary

ROBIN JEAN HOLBERT Robin Jean Holbert, 78, of Sherman, Texas, passed away quietly on September 11, 2025, at Baylor Scott and While hospital in Plano. She was surrounded by her husband and various family members as she slipped away from this earth into the arms of her blessed Savior. She was born In Saint Paul, Minnesota to Max and Grayce Wyman, growing up in Forest Lake, Minnesota and graduating from high school there in 1965. She was one of 7 children including two sets of twins. At the age of 9 with both parents working, she was responsible for raising her three younger sisters including, as they grew older, walking them to school even in sub-zero weather. Upon graduation she was accepted at Hamline University in Saint Paul. Hamline, the oldest college in Minnesota, is a Methodist, liberal arts institution with strict rules ... most of which Robin promptly began to break. Freshmen couldn't work ... Robin had a job. Freshmen couldn't have a car...Robin had an old clunker, one of several she drove over the next four years. Despite her extracurricular antics, she graduated in 1969 and with $25 in her pocket headed for California with a couple of her friends. In Monterrey she was introduced to a dashing young man from Texas with a handlebar moustache and a red 1959 MGA1600. It was love at first sight ... first the car then the Texan. She married the Texan, Jerry Holbert, November 28, 1970. Jerry was an Arabic linguist for the National Security Agency so the U.S. Government sent the two of them on an incredible adventure to the island nation of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean. While in Cyprus Robin launched her teaching career at the American Academy for Girls in the capital, Nicosia. Upon returning to the States and graduating from Texas A&M University in College Station with a Masters of Education degree, Robin advanced her career at a variety of schools as Jerry moved around as a university administrator and professor. The saga started at Miller Jordan Junior High School in San Benito, Texas, then on to the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas followed by A&M Consolidated Junior High School in College Station. The next move was to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Robert E. Lee High School, then back to Texas and Nacogdoches Central Heights High School. Her final gig was Pearl C. Anderson Learning Center in Dallas. Robin was named Teacher of the Year at three different schools in two different states. She loved her subject matter, but loved her students more. Robin also served as Adjunct Faculty in the College of Education at Stephen F. Austin State University. Robin was always active in the community, serving on the boards of Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful and Nacogdoches County Master Gardeners. In Sherman she served on the boards of Grayson County Children's Advocacy Center and Grand Central Station. Robin also loved sports, coaching the American Academy for Girls volleyball team to the island championship and then spending a decade (1975-85) as the Number One female racquetball champion in South Texas. In later years she switched to tennis where her left-handedness and excentric style baffled many opponents. In 1976 at the age of 28 Robin and Jerry adopted two children from Minnesota ... Brian (age 14) and his sister Brenda (age 9). Thus began a very busy life of football games, tennis tournaments and ski trips. The couple had to trade in their Mercedes 300SEL because they couldn't afford the car and the kids. Brenda's marriage to Peter Fernandez resulted in a combined four children ... Ian, Amanda, Jennetta, and Lucinda. Their spouses are Emily, Jacob, Drew and Eduardo respectivly. All together they have produced a total of eight great grandchildren ... Zeke, Luke, Silas, Noah, Harper, Liam, Leo and Pablo. Robin greatly loved all her family as well as her many friends around the country. She loved travelling, cooking, gardening, reading, tennis and women's basketball. She held a special love for her church and her husband of 55 years, that Texan with the handlebar moustache. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 18 at 11 am at First United Methodist Church in Sherman. A reception will follow the service.
