Ruth Barton Obituary

Bonham - Funeral services for Ruth Madeline Barton, 86, of Shreveport and formerly of New Orleans, La., will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2012 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, Texas. Bro. Henry Shelton will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery. Mrs. Barton passed away on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Heritage Manor in Shreveport, La.

Ruth Madeline (Trapp) Barton was born on August 28, 1925 in Gober to James Odis and Pearl (Jarrell) Trapp. She married Richard Alvin Barton Jr. on November 26, 1942 in Bonham; he preceded her in death in 1986. She was an LPN. Mrs. Barton was a longtime member of Oak Park Baptist Church in New Orleans, La., until the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and is currently a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Shreveport, La.

She is survived by daughter, Sharon Barton Conrad of Shreveport, La.; grandchildren, Dr. Kristy Conrad of New Orleans, La., Lennis Richard Conrad of New Orleans, La., and Kelly Conrad Burmaster and husband Brett of New Orleans, La.; great-grandchild,Travis Burmaster of New Orleans, La.; siblings, Naomi Bolin, Bill Trapp. She is also preceded in death by her son, Richard Alvin Barton III; daughter, Cheryl Oveta Barton; both parents; sister-Thelma Bankston, and brother, Harvy Trapp.

Pallbearers will be Lennis Conrad, Mike Bankston, Bob Bolin, Robert Trapp, Jim Scharlach, and Brett Burmaster.

Family visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham.
