Ruth Luymes Obituary

SANBORN, Iowa - Ruth Antoinette Luymes passed away at the Prairie View Nursing Home on Thursday, April 22, 2010. She had attained the age of 88 years and 10 months. Funeral service will begin 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls, S.D., with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 26 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, S.D. with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Ruth was born in Orange City, Iowa on June 2, 1921 to Albert Van Oort and Antoinette W. (Rozeboom) Van Oort. She graduated from Orange City High School in 1938 and went onto Northwestern Junior College where she graduated in 1940 with an elementary teaching certificate. From 1940 to 1941 she taught elementary school in Little Rock, Iowa. In the summer of 1941 she married M.H. (Luke) Luymes and they moved to Sioux Falls where they lived all of their adult lives. To this union three children were born, Donald Kirk, Marinelle, and David Marion.
Ruth taught school for approximately 25 years in the Sioux Falls school district starting in 1953 as a substitute teacher at South Sioux. She was very active accompanying all the music programs in school. She continued her education at Augustana College and finished with the class of 1962.
Ruth helped organize the women's auxiliary course, was very active in musical groups, belonged to the First Reformed Church, and belonged to the Mr. and Mrs. Dance club. Ruth was a lifetime member of the PTA, and served for two years s the PTA President at the South Sioux School. She enjoyed playing bridge and games of all kinds for all her adult life
Survivors include her son, Dave (Sylvia) Luymes, Pottsboro; grandchildren, Steve (Lisa) Isaacson, Sioux Falls, Andy Luymes, Los Angeles, Calif., Jennifer Booth, Wessington Springs, S.D., Tom (Chantel) Isaacson, Sioux Falls, Jeannine Robinson, Las Vega, Nevada and Kirk (Lynda) Luymes, Wessington Springs, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; brother, (Charline) Van Oort, Rochester, Minn.; and sister, Marna (Don) Hakeman, Sanborn, Iowa.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Luke; brother, Albert (Bruzz); and children, Donald and Marinelle, and great-grandson, Andrew.
