SETH SUTTON Obituary
SETH BENJAMIN SUTTON
Seth Benjamin Sutton was born on Wednesday, August 7, 1996, in Sherman, Texas to parents - Michael A. Sutton and Cynthia L. Sutton - and, his older brother, Jordan M. Sutton. Born smack dab in the middle of the Wilson N. Jones shift change, Dr. Boothe, Dr. Shaw, and the double-teamed delivery room audience clapped and cheered at the bouncing baby boy, weighing 10 pounds, 12.8 oz. Numerous name suggestions were made - "Hoss", "Bubba", "Champ". His parents loved the biblical name "Seth" and "Benjamin" after his maternal great-grandpa. His parents had no idea then how their adorable baby boy would also carry much weight in the hearts of his parents, family, and friends.
Seth spent many of his "baby" days in the care of his loving grandparents-"Memaw" and "Pawpaw" (Louis and Elsie Sikes) and "Gran" and "Gramps" (Albert and Doris Sutton) ...while his parents worked long hours at the Post Office and at school. After the sad passing of his "Gran", his "Gramps" began to pick Seth up from PreK at Golden Rule Elementary. Those hours spent together with all the grandparents made for some funny stories, serious bonding and sweet memories that Seth carried with him throughout his life.
For several years, Seth was active in Boys Club sports including soccer, basketball, football, and Little League baseball. He seemed to have a natural talent for sports both in basketball and pitching and batting as a "southpaw". This talent was evidenced as a very young child for making free-throws. He enjoyed many hours with his brother shooting baskets in the driveway. This talent was first recognized when his Memaw and Pawpaw gave him a small indoor basketball goal for Christmas. The goal was put together and left in his room. His Mom was jolted awake early the next morning by the roaring sound of a cheering crowd....and, the words..."YOU DID IT!" She came rushing down to Seth's room to find.... not only did the goal have LOUD sound effects...but, Seth had thrown the ball from his baby bed.... across the room.... and, into the goal.
As Seth grew, he also began to show a natural gift for technology. His focus seemed to shift from enjoying sports to gaming. He and his family seldom got to see the opening credits at the movies because he was delayed in the lobby as he racked up points playing "Crazy Taxi". His family holds the memory of a crowd gathering around the "little kid" on tiptoe, barely able to see the screen, winning more and more time on the game as the credits rolled inside.
Seth was saved and baptized at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Denison. Later, he was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where he helped with the bus ministry. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Grayson Bible Baptist Church. As a teenager, Seth worked for Dr. Butler at Best Friend's Animal Clinic. Seth was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, receiving numerous merit badges and achieving his Eagle Scout rank in 2014.
Seth graduated from Denison Senior High School in 2015 as a Socrates Scholar. He also graduated from Grayson County College and attended the University of North Texas in Denton. Seth received his CompTIA certification for IT repair soon after. Afterward, Seth worked as an IT repairman at the Goodwill Corporate office. For the past 3 years, he worked as an IT tech at Computech Computers of Denison. He loved and admired his boss, Jim, and truly loved his work. He had recently shared with his family that he really loved his work because "it feels good to help people." Jim described Seth as kind, capable, and conscientious....and, felt hiring Seth was the "best decision" he had made over the 28-year history of Computech Computers. Jim also shared that he had asked Seth early in his employment if he "knew the Lord" and Seth, with certainty, answered "Yes, I do". In the grief following Seth's passing, his family found his Bible resting next to his bed and not one, but two Bibles in the wreckage of his car.
Seth was also a voracious reader. We are hard pressed to think of a book he hasn't read. He also greatly enjoyed collecting and listening to all genres of music and especially enjoyed listening to Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder Road". Seth was a master planner for family vacation trips. He enjoyed many family vacations with his parents, brother, Gramps, and Memaw to many states, Canada, Mexico. He would research and always come up with interesting sites to explore, places to stay, things to see. Year before last, he traveled with his Mom and Dad to Kentucky. It was a phenomenal trip.... primarily due to Seth's navigation and site suggestions. They spent many days exploring the Ark in Kentucky and seeing all the sites both near and far. Seth had come prepared with many hours of bluegrass music loaded and they loudly sang bluegrass songs as they traveled to Kentucky.
Seth was focused and frugal...and, at the age of 28...one year ago.... he purchased a small home. God's timing was perfect because his brother, Jordan, had just made the decision to move back from Houston. For the past year, he was able to live with his brother. In a quiet conversation with his Mom, Seth once said..."I was really happy that I was able to buy the house." His Mom said... "Seth, you should be proud." With that, Seth said..."I'm not proud, but I AM happy." Seth was never a prideful person in any way. He was patient, loving, kind and had a dry wit and fun sense of humor that was only seen by those closest to him. While he was naturally introverted, he made a conscious effort to reach out to others.... organizing game nights at his house or Church. Days before his passing, he had traveled with his brother and several friends to the waterpark. On Wednesday, he dropped by his parent's house to eat a hamburger and pick up some speakers for some project in the planning. He laughed and joked with his Mom and Dad. As he started out the door, he came back to kiss and hug his parents and tell them he loved them. On Thursday morning, he met his Dad for breakfast from Braum's. They visited together, and Seth left in his beloved white 2013 Dodge Challenger......down the highway...to Heaven.
Seth is survived by his loving parents - Michael A. and Cynthia (Cindi) Sutton of Denison; brother, Jordan M. Sutton of Denison; "Memaw", Elsie Sikes of Denison; Aunts and Uncles: Herb and Karen Ferrier, Mike and Diana Sikes, Terry Sikes, all of Denison; Glenn and Debra Belz of Grand Prairie.
