Verna Gilbert Obituary

SHERMAN - Verna Marie Gilbert, age 68, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014 in Sherman, Texas after a very short two month battle with multiple myeloma. Verna Gilbert was born February 16, 1946 in Rockville, Connecticut; the daughter of Samuel E. Sessions & Vivian (Sloan) Sessions. She graduated from Stafford Springs High School and began working in retail at an early age. She is best known for working at the Piggly Wiggly on the east side of Sherman and Big Lots in Sherman.

She never met a stranger, loved to talk and visit, and wouldn't hesitate to tell you about her walk with Christ. She was very dedicated to her family and friends and would always try to fix things if any of us were ever fussing or go out of her way to help in any situation. She adored taking pictures of everyone and anything she could and had her beloved camera with her at all times, even as we kids tried to hide it on occasion.

She loved any new gadget that came out on the market, the color blue, horses, Pegasus, and any flower she could stop on the side of the road to dig up and bring home. She also had a great love for animals, apparent with her four tiny dogs and three very fat cats.

Picking up any stray animal she found whether it was running into her car on Parkway or floating down the creek next to her house, would not be put past her. Her huge heart graced each one of them when either keeping them or finding them (and there were many) a good home.

She was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Sherman and could also be seen visiting Family Worship Center in Whitesboro where her children and grandchildren attended.

She is survived by her husband George Gilbert of Sherman, sons William J. Lallier Jr. of Oklahoma and Stephen Lallier & wife Tana of Bells, Texas, daughters Liberty Miller & husband David of Sherman, Texas, and Rachael Harrelson & husband Adam of Hewitt, Texas, Stepdaughter Angela Bruno of Anna, Texas, and Stepson Daniel Gilbert of Central Texas; grandsons Scott Miller & wife Megan, Dustin Miller, Noah Duncan, Lucas Harrelson, and Vaughn Lallier all of Texas; granddaughters Tiffany Lallier, Emily Bruno, Madison Miller, and Jennifer Naylor of Texas; great grand daughter Eliza Marie Miller of Sherman Texas, sisters Francis Parkman of Manchester, Conn., Suzie Snow & husband Bill of Manchester, and Mary (Peggy) Gillis & husband Steve of Manchester, and brother Samuel Sessions Jr. & wife Linda of Howe, Texas, as well as many nieces, nephews and an abundance of close friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Vivian Sessions, her father Samuel Sessions, husband William J. Lallier, husband Michael Lee McQuinn, and granddaughter Sara Lallier.

The family would like to thank the Texas Oncology staff, TMC and their wonderful nurses, and Hospice Plus who with God made it possible for us to bring our mother home for the few days that we had.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to one of these facilities that have been very important to us in these last few months.

Visitation will be held at Waldo Funeral home on Tuesday July 8, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. with services to follow on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel in Sherman, Texas. A private burial will be held at a later time.

She had a heart and spirit that touched so many people. Although, we only met once, it was enough to make an imprint. She was such a great comforter and supporter. She will be missed.

Our "Mama V"! It may seem strange for me to call her Mama V. After all, she and I had never actually met in person. But, Or relationship went much deeper than that! She was a wonderful Prayer Partner. I knew I could count know matter what to pray for me know matter where I was in the world. She know the call of being a Missionary was not what God wanted for her, but, she did know she was to pray for the Missionaries that God did send out. MamaV I will love you forever...you are my Mama V! xoxo
