Wanda Blount Obituary

A celebration of the life of Wanda Mae Blount will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Waldo Funeral home. She passed on to her eternal life on Saturday, July 27, 2013.

She was born on Aug. 2, 1924 to John and Ophelia Herriage of Honey Grove, Texas. She graduated from Gober High School then later met and married the love of her life George Eli Blount. They were married on Oct. 18, 1941. They spent the next 40 years together until his death in 1981. They had three boys and lived in Pottsboro. She loved to cook for her family. She was an avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles. She was very creative, she and her husband enjoyed making ceramics and she also took painting classes and left behind many beautiful paintings for her family. She was a caretaker for her family, she was a good, caring friend. She was a loving wife and mother. She cherished her grandchildren. She worked at Mill Creek Resort, then at Grayson College Bookstore where she retired in 1995. She was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church in Pottsboro.

She is survived by her sons, George Michael Blount of Denison and Mark Alan Blount of Gordonville; grandchildren, Scott and wife Brandy Blount of Howe, Cindy and husband John McCullough of Sherman, Chris and wife Margaret Hosey of Denison, Angela and husband Kenneth Tate of Frisco, Justin Blount of Ada, Okla., and Lauren Blount of Denison. She had 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Kenny Royce Blount; and brothers, John Richard Herriage, Bobby Gene Herriage and Royce Jewel Herriage.

Family will receive guests from 6 -7 p.m. Thursday at Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman. Memorials may be made to Georgetown Baptist Church, Pottsboro.

Dear Blount Family: I am saddened to hear of Wanda's passing. She and Mom dearly loved to be together, so I know there is a celebration going on now that they are together again.

Michael and family, I'm so sorry to hear of Wanda's passing. She and Mother were like sisters, so she was always a part of my life. A very sweet lady. I will miss her.
