James "Benny" Armstrong, 80, of Paducah, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Mercy Health-Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
Born Sunday, Nov. 28, 1943, in Kuttawa, he was the son of the late Marvin Armstrong and the late Mae Guess Armstrong. Benny's life was guided by two distinct events. The first was his acceptance of Christ as his Saviour at Swanee Furnace Baptist Church. The second was when he met and married the love of his life, Dorchid, who he described as "the prettiest girl he had ever seen." They were married for 54 years
He loved going to his son's basketball games when they were young. Later in life, he loved spending time with his four grandchildren, who called him Papaw or Pap. He loved spending time outside mowing or just sitting on his swing. He was happiest at home on his couch watching Andy Griffith or westerns with Dorchid by his side.
He loved his family dearly and he especially loved when they were all together with him.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Dorchid Fox Armstrong; three sons, James Armstrong (Carrie) of Murray, Mark Armstrong (Amy) of Paducah, and Chris Armstrong of Paducah; grandchildren, Carrisa Armstrong, Allison Armstrong, Zach Armstrong, and Brinkley Armstrong.
He was preceded in death by brother, Bill Armstrong, and sisters, Marvina Oliver, Mary Lipscomb and Betty Hesher.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday April 6, 2024, at Collier Funeral Home Chapel. Mark Armstrong, Bud Russell and Stan Durrett officiated.
