Beverly Hawking Obituary
Beverly Jean Hawking passed away in the early hours of April 23rd at Providence Hospital.
"I have lived a fabulous life" was the mantra of our irreverent, sassy, stubborn, larger than life friend.
Beverly was born in the small town of Royal, Iowa. She was the middle daughter of Annetta and Edward Dau and was sandwiched between her much beloved sisters, Marilyn and Rita. Beverly had very fond memories of growing up in the small farming community of Royal, Iowa where her mother, Annetta and her father, Edward, operated the Bell Telephone office and kept the town connected. Later the family moved to a farm west of town and she loved to tell stories about rural life; often reminiscing about carrying a salt shaker out to the garden to enjoy the homegrown tomatoes and other garden treats which they cultivated.
When Beverly was a Jr in High School her father moved the family west to Everett, Washington to work in the lumber mill; thus began her time in the Lowell Larimer neighborhood. She graduated from Everett HS, a proud Seagull all the way.
After graduation, Beverly left Everett for the bright lights of the big city of San Francisco where she pursued a career in modeling. Eventually she traveled on the Queen Mary to England to work for the US Navy. After returning to Seattle from her European adventure she met an Englishman, Kenneth Hawking, whom she followed to Southern California to marry. After several years in Manhattan Beach CA the set off on another adventure taking them to Palm Beach Florida and Wolfsburg, Germany. They eventually returned to the states and settled in Manhattan Beach for a time before relocating back to Washington state.
Beverly was so many things to us: a dear friend, a small business owner and entrepreneur, gourmet cook and baker, consummate storyteller, lover of cats and dogs and chocolate, proud historical homeowner, world traveler, surrogate grandma to Christian, Alex and Anna, an amazing neighbor to Sandi and Troy and a lover of life; she kept all who knew and loved her entertained with her irreverence and wit.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, Annetta and Edward Dau, her sister Rita Forbes (Gary), and is survived by her sister, Marilyn Jespersen, special niece Paula Stroh (Dennis), many other nieces and nephews, and by her team of Beverly's angels, Terry Lippincott (Bob Taylor), Sandi Knafla (Troy) and Diane Woodke (Mark) who will miss her very much.
It was an honor to know and love her.
As per Beverly's wishes a private ceremony will be held first and later in the summer, a more public gathering will be held to celebrate her amazing life. February 18, 1937 - April 23, 2022
