Clare Waite Obituary

Clare W. Waite

Clare W. Waite passed away on October 19, 2011 at home. Clare was born in Cloquet, Minnesota on June 16, 1923.
She was the youngest of five children born to German immigrant parents of whom she was very proud.
Her two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Clare attended high school at Stanbrook Hall in Duluth, MN but graduated from Cloquet High School in 1941. She then attended Duluth Business University and after graduating worked for a short while in banking in Duluth before venturing west to Seattle, WA in 1942. Clare was employed at the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle where she met Edward B. Waite, newly discharged Captain in the Army Air Force. They were married in 1946 and together they raised their five children in Edmonds, WA.
Edward died in 1979; and son, Donald, passed away in 1989.
Through the years Clare was involved in many volunteer projects, mostly with senior programs and shut-ins, her church and Victims Assistance Unit at the Snohomish County Prosecutors' office the first year the program was instigated. She later volunteered at the American Red Cross and was subsequently hired as case manager for the Project Pride Program. She continued to serve in that capacity for nearly 30 years, retiring in June of 2011.
Through the years Clare traveled extensively to many foreign countries, but mostly enjoyed driving the open roads here at home. She was a loyal friend, very generous to her varied charities, possessed a most positive attitude and always had a welcoming smile. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and their happiness was hers.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret "Peggy"; her three sons and her cherished daughters-in-law, Edward and Viki, James and Jackie and Stephen and Joyce, and their daughter, Kimi. Also surviving are Donald's children, Jennifer, Lindsay, Mark and Andrew; three nieces; and five nephews.
Clare's family wishes to express their gratitude to Group Health Hospice for their excellent care and support.
A viewing will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary being said at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Beck's Funeral Home, 405 Fifth Ave. S, Edmonds, WA 425-771-1234. The Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 630 7th Avenue North, Edmonds, WA, following with Interment at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery in Shoreline, WA.
