Daniel Wyckoff Obituary

Daniel William Wyckoff

Dec. 2, 1949 - Sept. 2, 2004

Daniel was born in Everett, Washington to C. Jacky Clark (Gardner) and A. Bill Wyckoff. His wife of ten years, Kathey, two children, Kris and Kelsey, his mother and father who live in Everett, Washington and two sisters Becky Wyckoff and Trisha Murphy and her children survive him.
Dan graduated from Everett High School in 1968. He was a catcher for Everett High School Baseball team and began a love for fishing and hunting. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Economics from Western Washington State College in December of 1971. He graduated in the top 3% of his class from Gonzaga University School of Law completing his Doctorate, magna cum laude in 1976. Dan was a member of the Gonzaga Law Review and Research Editor for three years. All of his education was financed with full-time employment with the Office of the Attorney General. Upon admission to the Bar he immediately began practicing law in Everett, Washington. Dan's practice concentrated on business and corporate matters, later developing into a special practice dealing with construction law and related litigation.
In 1984 with his first child on the way, Dan moved to Olympia beginning his tenure with State government. Starting as Assistant Attorney General working as an attorney for the Fish and Wildlife Division of the AG's Office and later moved to the Chief of Enforcement for the Department of Fish and Wildlife. Dan's innovation, dedication and pride lead him through many challenges with successes beyond his years.
Dan shined the most, when he became the Chief of the Enforcement division for the Washington State Department of Wildlife in 1988. In that position, Dan started the transformation of who and what, Fish and Wildlife Officers are today, and how they are recognized as true professionals. Dan's proudest days were as Washington States Head Game Warden. He sincerely loved his officers and continued to strive to make them the best they could be. He fought some very tough political battles with an administration that often put politics in front of what was best for the Department and the Enforcement Division. Fortunately, he won many of those battles for the betterment of his officers. After leaving the State in 1993, Dan returned to private practice and primarily focused the remainder of his career fighting for employee rights with regards to grievances with various administrations. He began Wyckoff Construction Company building some fifteen homes in the Thurston County area.
The more tender side of Dan always put his family first. He was a part of every aspect of his kids' lives, taking part in every baseball, basketball, and track meet they were involved in, always making time with his busy work schedule. Dan served on the School Board of the Holy Family School for three years. He loved his two golden retrievers Max and Bailey taking them to his cabin on Hood Canal, where he and his wife enjoyed spending their spare time. He will be missed by all that knew him. He remains in the hearts of his family as a great unselfish man and father.
The family asks that you give Kathey a call in the near future to celebrate Dan's life in your own private way. Dan requested no attention directed toward him and for that reason there is no services on his behalf.
Donations are being excepted in Dan's honor at the AWL Foundation, 275 Pine Forest Road, Goldendale, WA 98620-3307, Phone No. 509-773-6141. The Foundation will be distributing funds to organizations that were near and dear to Dan's Heart!
