Dennis Bray Obituary

Dennis Allan Bray Dennis Allan Bray, age 63, was born in Grand Forks, N.D. He passed away at home on September 8, 2014, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Dennis is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patty; sons, Blake (Ashley) Bray and Brandon (Jenna) Bray of Lakewood; special grandson, Bentley; and "soon-to-be" grandson, Baby Chance; mother, Marjorie Bray of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Linda (Cliff) Olson of Camano Island; and brother, Gary Bray of Marysville. He also leaves behind many relatives and friends including special cousin, Mary K. Hogan and Myra Reinhardt, who was like a daughter to him. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Bray. Dennis moved with his family to Washington State in 1954, eventually settling in Marysville where he graduated from high school in 1970. He started work at B&M Foods in Everett, eventually becoming produce manager. During this time he met then married Patty in 1979, moved to Lakewood into the home they built, and raised their family. Dennis spent 45 years in the grocery business, most recently at IGA at Camano Plaza. Dennis was a farmer at heart and spent many years raising beef, chickens, pigs, goats, etc., as well as, planting his red potatoes which he would turn into hash browns, load up his truck and drive to Pattys office at GTE where her co-workers would head out to the parking lot and buy every thing he had. One of his fondest memories was taking his family back to his uncles farm in North Dakota and working on his potato farm in the Red River Valley. Dennis was a well known and respected Pigeon Fancier and judge for many years. He got his first pair of pigeons when he was 9 years old and when his dad realized he wasn't going to become disinterested, he started taking him to local pigeon shows and his pigeon hobby took off. He has participated in shows in Canada and all over the United States, attending shows up and down the east & west coast, and many places in between. He won many 1st places and was always proud of his wins in at least, four Grand Nationals. The highlight of his hobby was when he and his friends went to Nuremburg, Germany to attend the German Grand National in 2006. He had many stories to tell about that trip. In 2012 the German host family actually came to the Northwest and visited their new American friends. We hosted a party at our home and fun was had by all! His friends in his hobby were a very important part of his life. Hank, Vic, Leonard, Orrie, too many to mention, but you all know who you are, and you know how much he loved you all. Dennis has left us far too soon and will be forever missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the family home in Lakewood, from 1-5 p.m.

I meet Dennis at the Lakewood store, when I drove school bus for Lakewood.
Dennis was the greatest person. He was always there to listen to other people’s problems. I miss him, he was a dear friend. We lost him way too soon, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and the boys.

Dennis was a member of my woodshop class in the old Marysville High School building on State Street. He was a wonderful student, a class act, and a natural leader. Always working on something and a model student, a real example for other students to follow. The old saying, the good die young is so true, he left us way too soon.
His legacy will be the wonderful man he became and the wonderful things he accomplished.
My best to his family, you can truly be proud of Dennis and your heritage. May you gain peace from all the things he was.

I met Dennis when I started working at B&M in 1974. We were all like family, and had lots of fun times at work, and at our store partys. I remember when his twins were born, and how excited he was to be a father. I remember when he was building his house, and he wanted everything to be just right for Patty. A great guy, thats for sure. My thoughts are with his family, and I will be praying for strength for them. Thanks Dennis for your friendship~

I knew of Dennis because we share the same last name. Over the years while doing my shopping, I had been asked on more than one occasion if I was related to Dennis Bray. It would always make me smile. When I read of his passing, I wanted to share with you that I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family...

The Bray family: you are in my deepest thoughts at the hard time. I can always remember walking to the Lakewood store in middle school and then driving there in High school. He always had a smile on his face and knew almost all of us kids by name and what candies we loved to indulge in. I hope he is now resting peacefully looking over all of you! Rest in peace Dennis Bray.

Bob, Faith, and I are so saddened with this loss of a wonderful cousin! Dennis helped me with my 4th grade Science project focusing on pigeons! We've kept in touch ever since that correspondence. One of my fondest and fun times would be heading to Seattle to dance, or whatever, the night away at Parker's Ballroom. I believe it has since closed but was that ever a fun night of dancing and hanging out! That VW Bug got us many places that trip! Same trip staying up all night catching up with life and heading to the campground where Kirk and Linda were camping with the kids...wake up call I believe around 6 AM. Last summer... What a treasure of memories I will never forget. Get out the Copa wine! My last toast celebrated with Dennis to all of us at Linda and Cliffs delicious crab and salmon dinner! Salute to a wonderful cousin! MKH
