Dugan James Flanders

1991 - 2018

March 27, 1991 - July 4, 2018 Our beloved Dugan James Flanders passed away on July 4, 2018 after a tragic accident on the Skykomish River. We are broken hearted beyond measure, but believe that he is now on to his next great adventure. Dugan was born March 27, 1991. He enjoyed 27 years of a life rich with family, friends, music, travel, and love. He was a free spirit who lived every day to its fullest potential. Dugan spent many years of his youth playing baseball with Sky Valley Little League where he met a lot of friends who remained his constant companions throughout the rest of his life. He graduated Monroe High School in 2009. Dugan joined the United States Marine Corps in 2010 and was honorably discharged in 2014. While serving, he spent time in Iwakuni, Japan and Ft. Belvoir, VA. A lot of his favorite times were spent with his USMC brothers. Dugan joined Werner Paddles in May, 2015. He was promoted to Southwest sales rep in January, 2018 when he was then able to travel, make new friends, and talk shop with others who shared his passion for paddling. It was a job he loved and he felt lucky to be a part of the Werner family. Dugan loved snowboarding at Stevens, jamming with friends on his bass, paddling rivers, and helping others when he could. He most recently volunteered and spent a weekend with Team River Runner, whose mission is to create an environment of healthy adventure for healing active duty and veteran service members through paddle sports. Dugan is survived by his moms, Jennifer Bonga and Rochelle Lyon; his dad, Douglas; and extra special mom, Karla Flanders; his favorite sister, Brooklyn; his grandpa, Rich; his grandparents, Joyce and Jim Lucas; and his loving extended family of aunties, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind the ying to his yang, his best girl, Chelsea; along with a world full of friends. He was preceded in death by his dear grandma, Jo Marie. A memorial fund has been established at Coastal Community Bank, PO Box 1566, Monroe, WA 98272. We will donate money in his memory to organizations that he supported such as Team River Runner, KEXP - Music that Matters, and Skykomish Valley Indian Education. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at the Monroe Eagles Park, 19936 Eagle Park Drive, Monroe, WA Please bring your own chair if you can, dress comfortably, and join us with an adventurous spirit as we remember the life of our deeply beloved Dugan.
