He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and from Oregon State University with a Master of Science in Forest Products in 1966. While in high school, Ed lettered in football and track, was a member of the Order of M and the National Honor Society. In 1966 he married Jan Liesegang of Echo, OR, whom he met while a grad student at OSU. He began his paper products career at Crown Zellerbach in West Linn, OR, soon after marrying. He left the paper making industry in 1978 to sell equipment and chemicals to the paper mills. He returned to Scott Paper in Everett in 1987 which later became Kimberly-Clarke. Ed and Jan enjoyed participating in the Scott Bowling league for several years. He retired in 2002. After retiring, property was purchased at Desert Aire, a village on the Columbia River, where golf and construction projects filled his days. In 2004, Jan and Ed moved to Desert Aire full time. Retirement brought travel opportunities; Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii, several states, cruising the Caribbean and the many seas of the Southern Hemisphere. He drove his 1986 SVO Mustang with great pleasure and spent hours restoring the car to its original color. For 22 years Jan and Ed drove to Oregon State football games and have supported both athletic and academic programs at the university. In retirement, Ed and Jan were Snowbirds in the winter in Mesa, AZ, and Washington in the summer. Ed was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2015 and the resulting damage made many physical and memory changes. Complications from this disease led to his ultimate passing. He is survived by his wife Jan, of 51 years; a son, Eric Hansen (Stephanie), daughters, Melinda Hansen, Andrea Kirilenko (Mark) and two grandsons (Curtis and Luke) and a granddaughter (Natalie). Many thank you's to Brookdale - Torbett for the wonderful care Ed received during his final days and to Life Tributes Cremation Center, Kennewick, WA, who administered Ed's final care.
