Geoge Carlquist Obituary

George Harold "Hank" Carlquist George Harold "Hank" Carlquist of Everett, WA passed away on February 20, 2014 at the age of 86 due to complications related to Huntington's Disease. Hank was born on May 11, 1927 in Wallace, ID to John and Hanna Cecilia Carlquist, the fourth of five children. The family relocated to Stanwood, WA in 1935. Hank enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a machinist during World War II and served for 18 months before he was honorably discharged and returned to finish his education at Stanwood High School. Hank continued working as a machinist for 40 years, obtaining journeyman status in 1952, until retiring in 1986. Throughout this time Hank was an avid union supporter and member of the International Association of Machinists. Hank met and married Edith Erga in 1950 and was happily married for 63 years. Together the couple have three daughters. The family resided in Mount Vernon, WA from 1956 to 1975 before moving to Everett where Hank was a n active member of the community, including membership in the Sons of Norway and the Elks Lodge. Hank was also a lifelong Democrat, blood donor, and advocate for organ donation. Hank's hobbies included swimming, traveling, bowling, playing cards, and being an all-around handyman. Hank is survived by his wife Edith; daughters, Catherine Evans (Chris), Carlene Sinnott (Russell), and Sandra Carlquist (Pete Maloney); grandchildren, Jason Evans, Justin Sinnott, Kendra Evans Brito, Kirstin Sinnott Gerber, Kelsey Maloney Allen, and Katrina Maloney; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; as well as siblings Eric, Ethel, John, and Vic. A memorial service will be held at Purdy & Walters with Cassidy (1702 Pacific Ave., Everett, WA) on Saturday March 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow and graveside service at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Northwest Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 17406 Redhawk Drive, Arlington, WA 98223 or the Sons of Norway Normanna Lodge Scholarship Fund, 2725 Oakes Ave, Everett, WA 98201.
