Gregory Bloom Obituary

Greg Bloom; beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away May 10, 2022 as a result of a stroke. His life was one filled with love and acceptance of all people and circumstances, without judgement. He has been described as a humble, kind and sweet man who loved his family deeply.
Greg was born July 7, 1943 in Everett, WA to Mel and Mary Bloom. He was the second of six children; Mike (wife Linda,) Fr. Phil, Louie, Lawrence and Melanie Bloom. He was raised on a 90 acre farm outside of Arlington, now River Meadows Park, until the age of 14 when he and his family moved to Camano. The family bought a fishing resort just north of the state parks named "Mel Bloom's Manaco Beach Resort" where many family members still reside. As a 1961 graduate of Twin City High School, he was the salutatorian at the commencement ceremony.
Further education included Everett Community College and the University of Washington where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Master's Degree in Business Administration. Before joining Boeing, he was a cook on a fishing ship in Alaska where he met and later married his wife and mother of his three sons, Mimi Dukes.
His sons were the pride of his life; Corey (Stephanie,) Leon (Salwa) and Gavin Bloom. Upon remarrying, Marianne McGarry-Bloom, three more sons were added to his tribe; Seth, Danny (Chea) and Ben Hills (now deceased.)
After a 34 year career at Boeing, Greg loved gardening, yoga, cards, beach watching, crabbing and attending St Cecilia's Church. He volunteered at Stanwood Elementary as a chess coach where Marianne taught. Upon her retirement, Greg and Marianne traveled the world. India, Thailand, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Korea were some of their ports of call. Greg was an unofficial ambassador of the gentle side of America.
Survivors include his beloved grandchildren; Domenic, Julian, Jasper, Gigi, and Benjamin, with baby twins on the way. Many nieces and nephews loved their Uncle Greg.
Services under direction of Gilbertson's Funeral Home are as follows:
May 20 11:00 St. Cecilia's Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted for the Mary Bloom Center, named for his mother, in Puno Peru. The Center was founded by his brother, Fr. Phil Bloom; a female orphanage and women's medical center and an after school tutoring program named in Honor of Major Robert Lindenau, a nephew killed in Afghanistan. Donations will be accepted at St. Mary's of the Valley Catholic Church, Monroe, WA where Fr. Phil is pastor. Please designate MBC in check memo

The word "Gentleman" described Greg in my heart as I shared my experience with him. Most gentle, kind, and caring man I have ever known. I miss him each time I visit the yoga studio we shared. Greg is not only a great loss to his family but also to our community as well.

I knew Greg only briefly in 1971 working as a longshoreman through the Fishermen and Allied workers Union, Seattle Washington. He invited me into his home several times in Bothell, I remember him as very quiet and observant.

Dear Mary Ann and family, The Island feels the great loss of this most kind of men. We are all better souls for having known him. I sincerely wish you peace in knowing he has touched us all and in his presence we all seemed to be gentler, more benevolent human beings.

Greg! Such a gentle, patient soul; a soft light in a tumultuous world. May God breathe his peace on especially Greg's family as they grieve in the loss of him and remain grateful for his life. Bless all your hearts.
