Hubert "Hugh" Smith

Hubert passed away on Friday, November 16, 2007 in Marysville, WA, at age 102. He was born January 29, 1905 in Seattle, WA, the son of Alba and Pat (Swearengin) Smith. He had lived in his own home until the time of his stroke on November 9, 2007.
He grew up in the Snohomish - Hartford area. As a young man, he worked in many of the lumber mills in the Snohomish area. In 1927 he married Zelda Myers, to whom he was married for 67 years. They lived at Fobes for many years, where their children grew up. During the Depression he was a truck mechanic. In 1951 he bought a farm near Stanwood. He later moved to Marysville and became a contractor. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are daughter, Vivian (Jim) Creeden; and son, Ronald (Jo) Smith. He has nine grandchildren, Michael (Sylvia) Creeden, David Creeden, John Creeden, Richard (Cheryl) Creeden, Dina (Rod) Jackson, Jerry Smith, Gordon (Patty) Smith, Gregory (Tahra) Smith, and Tawni (Jason) Biddle; two step-grandchildren, Randy and Rick Rossland. He also has 10 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; one niece, Dorothy Gilliland.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelda; son, Gordon "Smitty" Smith; a brother, Harold; two sisters, Lucille Mommsen and Gwendolyn Clark.
A special thanks to his care-givers, Theresa and Patsy, to his neighbor Howard Davis, and other neighbors who were so good to him. He was an exceptional man and will be missed by many.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, December 1, 2007, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State, Marysville. Cremation was by Purdy & Kerr of Monroe.
