I love you grampa and will always remember you. no matter what i dont think there will be another like you. you meant so much to me when you took me under your wing when you didnt even know me and gave me a chance. i know i wasnt always the easiest to get along with but i think that you and i were on the same page about many things. maybe that was why we liked each others personality so much. i know you are in a good place watching over us all now and smiling at the antics that go on in the behlen family. keep on smiling grampa. I love you!

I remember Jim's Hobby Shop when Jim and Jackie lived in one of the Kent Houses on East Center Street, located in the same block as Kent's Grocery Store. Jim was working as a bag boy and shelf stocker at the time, but had his Hobby Shop too. Mother (Grandma Glennna to most of you) and I spent many happy hours together painting ceramics we bought from Jim's Hobby Shop. (I still have several of them)You also talked me into building a model airplane. It flew with U-Reeli controls. We flew our planes at the old highschool football field.

During the time of the Fallon earthquakes, in 1954, you and Jackie and the family were living back at Jackie's childhood home in Soda Lake District. When the earthquake struck, in the middle of that night, you were out of the house like a human cannon ball. You said the "ground was moving likes waves in the ocean."

Rest In Peace, Jim. My condolences to the family and Patty. I am sorry this is so late. My computer didn't bring the obituary up last month at the time of posting.

dear daddy....

this is one of the harest things i think i have ever had to do...you see you have always been there for us through all the others....this time it's been so very hard, because your not here to call to give me your strength....i miss you so deeeply, but so greatful to have been there holding you in the end...telling you we would all be okay...it's still doesn't feel real, but sinking in slowly...some of the wonderful family treasures as we go through them really do help...thank you for saving so much of our family history for us to share and pass on ourselves later...i've finally gotten to see some of those beautiful sunsets you and jimmie seem to be teaming up on together...give everyone a big hug and kiss for us...we will allbe together again one day...rest peacefully daddy you fought so hard and always worked so hard ...you truely deserve some rest and to always be happy....love you eternally, always and forever your baby girl forever...mandy

I remember uncle Jim as a solid man. He had his feet on the ground and didn't play games with you. I think he was someone people could count on. A good man.

Like Marty, I haven't seen Jim, or most of the kids since before Jackie died. Uncle Jim will always be in my memories of my childhood. And my memories of him will be good ones.

We had another untimely and unexpected death recently with the passing of my wife Cindy's father, James Carl Behlen Sr. I recall what may have been my first visit (an early one anyway) to the home of my future in-laws, Jim and Jackie Behlen. I am not sure of the exact date, but well over thirty two years ago as that is how long Cindy and I have been married. Her mother Jackie and father Jim were then living in Dublin, CA so we were in closer proximity and visits took place more frequently. I sat down for the first time at their kitchen table, trying to play it cool and make the good impression as the boyfriend/college man/future son-in-law. No sooner had my rather sizable derriere hit the chair when the loud cracking of wood could be heard and down I went in a pile of splinters. Talk about life's most embarrassing moments! Fortunate for me, I wasn't skewered, the cameras weren't rolling and the chair was not a family heirloom. Jim and Jackie massaged my damaged ego and continued to make me feel at home. Jim had a good laugh and would not let me live it down anytime soon thereafter. Cindy lost her mother Jackie to cancer not long after those first visits I had to the home in Dublin.

Through the years, we didn't always have a lot of time with Jim, as we moved to different states and opportunities to visit became more limited. It seems time has never provided enough when death comes knocking. I will always remember my last visit, hug and cry with my father in-law Jim, immediately following the dispersing of Jimmy Juniors ashes (another much too soon a death) out of an airplane over Sand Mountain, Nevada in 2005. It was a rather incredible moment that remains etched forever even in my somewhat weak memory. Junior and senior are now soaring together again. We love and will miss you always. My loving condolences to my wife Cindy, sister and brother in-laws Mandy and Kevan, Jim's wife Patti and all the rest of the many members of that side of our family. John

Fishing in the whirlpool below the dam!! Wow, sometimes the trout were beyond number....i met Jim in high school, we both drove school buses, (1950-51) I drove the Soda Lake-Casey Road and Jim did Northam - Reno highway. Our first school day in Sept. 1950 we'd had lots of rain. Jim slid into an irrigation ditch on Pioneer Way (not named that then) and was late getting to the bus sheds where my grandfather, John Edwards, was the bus maintenance manager for several years.

I can remember many times uncle Jim playing that big Hammond in the living room, Mom & Jackie gabbing in the kitchen, playing games, the models, omg the models... Jim & Kevan showed me how to cook trout in foil that we'd just caught ! Can remember it like moments ago, Thank you Jim, I'll be missing you

Share a day with family or gardening or fishing - that would be a great way to remember Dad. We love you, we miss you, we will see you again. I hope you realized how important your impact was on each of us. And, man what happened to all those years between the midnight runs to Fallon and now?? What fun we all had growing up in our extended family.

I remember waiting for Uncle Jim, Jackie, and my cousins to arrive at Grandpa Daves, coming up from Dublin for the weekend. After thier arrival they would play Casino. Jim would laugh and laugh. His laugh still sounds in my head. THE BEHLEN LAUGH!! And I haven't seen him since Jackie left. I've missed him that long.
