James Proffitt Obituary

James "Jim" Proffitt

James "Jim" Proffitt, of Freeland, WA, passed away peacefully, August 23, 2011 after a full and prosperous life.
Jim was born March 19, 1916, in Roundup, MT. His family moved several times when he was a young boy.
Eventually, they settled in Seattle, WA. Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in 1934. After high school, he joined the Army Air Corps and spent four years in Europe and North Africa during World War II. When he returned home, he started his long time business, Colonial Roofing Company. He soon met and married the love of his life, Virginia Maynard- Marble. They had two children, son, Dale "Randy" and daughter, Terry.
After retirement, Jim and Virginia moved to their home on Whidbey Island. They enjoyed traveling and he spent many hours at Useless Bay Golf Course.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mami Proffitt; his wife, Virginia; and his sister, Grace Denovan.
Surviving are his brothers, Ray, Frank and Joe Proffitt; and his sister, Helen Gaetz. Also surviving are his son, Dale (Sandy) Proffitt; daughter, Terry (Rich) Smith; granddaughters, Ann Proffitt (Robert), Abby (Sam) Salsman; grandsons, Ian Proffitt, Allan (Melanie) Proffitt, Kyle (Jodi) Smith; and several great-grandchildren.
Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Bluebird Bungalow Adult Family Home. Their tender loving kindness gave him a bit of heaven while still on earth.
