Freddie Leon Proffitt, 85, passed away March 11, 2026, at his Glasgow residence. Born on June 9, 1940, Fred was the only child of Charles and Mary Proffitt. He married Linda Runell Pedigo and the couple had three children: Lorie, Stephen, and Lana. Linda passed away in 2015 and Fred married Sue Roach, who survives. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Lana. Other survivors include son-in-law David Morrice, Cape Cod, and grandchildren Ben Morrice, Cincinnati, Katie Morrice, Cincinnati, and Jason Morrice, Seattle; two stepchildren, Angela Roach Mutter, and Darrell Roach, both of Glasgow; step grandchildren Lauryn Mutter, Alex Mutter, and Kyle Roach, all of Glasgow.

A man of strong Christian faith, Fred served in several Churches of Christ as a deacon, song leader, speaker, and teacher.

He had a deep love for family and friends and was known as an exceptional encourager to the many who came to know and respect him. He took particular joy in writing and performing country music, riding motorcycles, traveling in the Smoky Mountains, and engaging in good humored conversations.

Fred had a strong work ethic and was an assistant manager at J. C. Penney in Glasgow, managed another clothing store in Madisonville, then later opened his own store, Proffitt's, in Glasgow. Fred worked several years in marketing at South Central Rural Telephone in Glasgow and even hosted a local radio show.

In recent years, Fred was a regular member of a Hardee's breakfast club, the Liar's Club gathering at George J's, and also a frequent walker at the T. J. Pavilion.

Fred was one of the founding members of the Safe Spot Program in Glasgow, and a past president of the Cave City Chamber of Commerce.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 14th, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday and Saturday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
