Peggy Sue Proffitt (née Cowan), 84, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on March 5, 2026, in Oak Ridge.
She was born May 25, 1941, in Holton, Virginia. Peggy made her home in Oak Ridge beginning in 1984. A lifelong learner, she earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 1998. She had a love of travel and traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Proffitt (d. 2010). She is survived by her daughter, Debra “Debbie” Young (and husband Frank) of Centennial, Colorado; her granddaughter, Ellie (19); and her younger sister, Sally Weidlich of Windsor, Colorado.
There will be no public funeral service. Peggy will be laid to rest at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
In remembrance of Peggy , the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice or to a fund supporting breast cancer or Leukemia And Lymphoma research in Peggy’s memory.
