Jim was born in Seattle and was a graduate of Ballard High School and the University of Puget Sound.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy on the submarine the USS Catfish #339. He continued to serve in the Navy and Coast Guard Reserves.
Jim joined the Seattle Police Department in 1961 and worked many departments including Patrol, Tac Squad, Narcotics and Traffic. He especially enjoyed his time on the SPD Motorcycle Drill Team. He was a Detective Sergeant when he accepted the position of Chief of Police in Mount Vernon.
Jim enjoyed baseball and coached from Little League to the high school level.
Jim loved living on Flowing Lake where he enjoyed entertaining with family and friends, pontoon boating and other water activities.
Jim died suddenly on May 22, 2022. Marilyn was grateful to be by his side. Jim and Marilyn were high school sweethearts, married in 1958 and had sixty-four wonderful years together.
Jim is survived by his wife Marilyn, children Jim, Jan, Jeff (Suzette) and grandchildren Mike (Brea and child Declan), Macy and Matt (deceased). Jim loved and was very proud of his family. He was involved in their sports and activities and made sure they could all attend college. He also leaves behind many close friends.
Jim often mentioned how glad he was to be able to go to the Boys and Girls Club after school as a youngster. Donations in his memory (in lieu of flowers) can be sent to: The Boys and Girls Club Snohomish 402 2nd Street Snohomish, WA. 98290.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 1:30pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1305 Pine Avenue Snohomish, WA. 98290.

Dear Marilyn, family and friends of Jim,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at
Jim´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" departs on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on the USS Catfish SS-339.
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
