my Condolences for your loss. I was looking for a Montooth on the internet and found Joseph. My name is Steve Montooth in Anchorage, Alaska. My family came from Rushville Illinois in the mid 1800s. I know there are Montooths from Findlay, Ohio and from Tennesee. I was inquiring since it seems our Montooth's are slipping away. I hope we may communicate again. stevensm @ak.net.

Teri, I was so shocked to hear the news about Joe,we all grew up together.I remember playing football with him and Jim in the backyard, or just hanging out at the house after school.Jim was telling me how joe had become a coach of the football team, I've been reading some of the stuff online and it sounds like he was really good at it,and the kids really loved him.I have so many memories of good times with joe and jim, we were just kids....I'm still in shock.....my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Teri,
Just like anybody that knew Joe and his family, I am shocked and overwhelmed by the news of his death. You and I met June 10, 1985 and after 24 years, you would think I could find the right words to give comfort to you, Alix and Sidney. I do not know who the author of this is but it just popped out of nowhere and it expresses many of the thoughts I am feeling as I think of Joe.

the ripples of your loved one's
life spread on and on to touch
the lives of others."

I had the honor of playing for Joe in Snohomish a few years back. To this day I tell people who didn't know him of awesome of a coach and leader Joe Montooth was. It is an honor to have shared some of my early years as an athlete and person with him. He was a huge influence on me on both. He is a huge loss to all that knew him. God bless the Montooth family.

I fell in love with the Montooth family when we lived in Lake Stevens in the same appartment complex. Such a warm and welcoming family, and never judgemental. Except once when Joe told me that I was a very cranky pregnant woman. LOL... (It was summer after all, It was near the end, and I had 3 other kids). He always made me smile or laugh. I know that he loves his family. And if he had it to do all over again... He wouldn't have changed a thing.
Teri... I know that he loves you, and the girls. All my love goes out to your family. You know that my family is here for you. ALWAYS

I was lucky enough to have Joe as a coach for six seasons of junior football in Snohomish (starting with the Chargers and ending with the Eagles) and for three seasons of little league baseball. The man quite literally grow up. During that time he helped to keep numerous boys like myself out of trouble and to give us a strong positive role model to look up to.
At the Memorial Teri had told me how surprised she was at the overwhelming support of the Granite Falls community and the friends from the junior football league of the past. I told her I wasn't surprised at all, but was never allowed to tell her why. I wasn't surprised because what we are doing for Joe's family is exactly what Joe would've and did do for our families in similar situations. This is a chance for the rest of us to give back to a man that gave so much of himself; for us if only for a moment to be like Joe Montooth. All we are doing is practicing the life lessons that Joe taught us.
Joe Montooth was my coach, my friend, and in my heart he was family. He will be forever missed, but not forgotten.

From the first day I met Joe, all those years ago in Little League, he made me feel like we had always been friends. Always there with a kind word and a big smile to brighten my day. Although we haven't seen much of each other lately I always knew if I needed to I could call on him.
Most recently my son Trevor had the honor of spending a week with him at football camp. He will always remember that experience and how Joe treated him like one of his own. I am sorry he will not get to experience Joe coaching him as he starts his High School Football career this fall but I do know that Joe touched him in a way that will stay with him forever.
Teri, although we have only met in passing, please know that the Cox Family is here whenever you or the girls may need anything. (Destinee knows how to find us.)
Granite Falls has lost a true Hero!
We will miss you Joe, God Bless!!

Joe was a beautiful man inside and out. He had a huge heart, laugh and smile. Many years ago our son Brandon had the honor of being coached by Joe in the Snohomish Junior football program. We witnessed for 4 years the discipline, the love, the care and kindness he gave each boy on and off the field and we know each one of them is a better person today because of his influence. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts and prayers are with Teri and family.

Teri and family
I would like to say on behalf of my family and my fellow parents and coaches from the Snohomish Junior football program, how very sorry we are for your loss. As the past president of the local association I treasured the times when we were able to have Joe with us. He was a great coach, and friend to have around. Always making people laugh and lifting them up when they needed it. He was a positive influence for a lot of kids and those kids are better today for having Joe as part of their childhood. Granite Falls was very lucky to have your Husband as a part of their community, as were we at Snohomish.
Thank you teri for sharing him with us, you were a part of all of this too and we are forever greatful.
God bless you

Coach Joe, You influenced all of us, your players. The lessons you taught us on the field helped prepare us for later tests in life. Coach I'll never forget playing for you, and I'll never forget some of the first words you said to us in middle school, " I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU DO, AS LONG AS YOU HIT THEM HARD!"

Joe and I worked closely, as a team, for a couple of years at Builders Millwork. He will be greatly missed and doubtlessly remembered as the lovable, hug-able, personable guy who was always ready to laugh or encourage others to do the same.
My thoughts go out to Teri, their girls and the rest of his family.

Although I never met Joe, it is obvious to me that he shared a great deal of dedication and mentoring to our youth and family community. My heart goes out to you, Teri. The only appreciation we can show is the return of loyalty Joe shared. Lean on your friends and our community during this difficult, unfair time. Joe would be proud to see you accept the support he has extended to others over the years.

Joe Montooth had the biggest heart in the world. There was something about him that made you love him. He was a great father, friend and football coach, but an even better person, inside and out. I knew Joe and I am very close to his daughter Alix. I send all my love and prayers to the family and Joe will not only be in my heart, but of everyone who has ever met him or even known about him.

Coach Joe was a great inspiration for not only me but the entire football team. It is an unexpected loss for me and all of the Granite Falls High School football team. Coach Joe was so much more than just a coach to the kids of Granite Falls. My son and his friends were blessed to have Joe as their coach from 7th grade until they made the playoffs in 2006. This group of guys benefited not only in having a coach who taught them about responsibility, teamwork, attitude and dedication but how to be be better people. He could be tough when necessary but was always there for them when they needed that extra adult in their corner. I would run into Joe regularly in the grocery store and we would talk about the kids and how excited he was when he would see them and catch up on their lives. As a parent having a guy like Joe as a role model for your child is comforting. I would like to thank his family for sharing him with our boys. He touched so many lives and he will be missed greatly.

Joe, you will always be remembered and be in my heart. We had many a laugh and a frustration together. It was all good. May your family be strengthened by memories of your big heart. We could often times just look at each other and start giggling knowing what the other was thinking. You were a big ole teddy bear, full of comfort when needed.
