June Hansen Obituary

June was born May 18, 1924 to Norwegian immigrants Olaf and Josefine Sather on the family farm in East Stanwood, Washington. She passed away peacefully at age 90 on April 8, 2015 in the home of her son Michael surrounded by family. She attended schools in Stanwood, graduating from Lincoln HS (Stanwood) in 1942. June attended the Griffin-Murphy Business College in Seattle, Wash. and worked at William O. McKay Ford. She married Merle Hansen, her high school sweetheart, on August 3, 1944 and they eventually settled in Everett, Wash. June and Merle enjoyed trailering with the Everettes Trailer Club, decades of square dancing with the Happy Hoppers, boating at Lake Chelan and in the San Juans, with a special trip to Alaska in their boat the Mer-Mac. They almost never missed Swedish pancakes at the Normana Lodge. June began working for the Everett school district in 1956 as an elementary school secretary, retiring in 1980. She was an active volunteer in the Education Secretaries Association (local, state and national), Assistance League of Everett, CanSurmount volunteer visitor and coordinator, and the Providence Hospital volunteer program. Her awards include American Cancer Society "Quality of Life" award, Soroptimist International Award - "Women Helping Women", and the Providence Heritage Award - Volunteer Services. After Merle's passing, June moved into a Mukilteo condo where she loved getting together with family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. June was preceded in death by Merle, her husband of 62 years; parents, Olaf and Josefine; brothers, Norman and Roy Sather and sisters, Gudrun Halley and Ruth Lindsay. She is survived by daughter, Donna Pearman (Blaine), sons, Douglas Hansen (Diane Sorensen) and Michael Hansen (Carmen Cook), grandchildren, Ryan Pearman (Sarah), Christian Hansen, Kelly Hansen, Becker Anderson, and Hanna Anderson, great grandchildren, Robert and Siena Pearman; special niece, Virginia Pedersen (Donald); and many dear friends. June was involved in life until her last days. Her loving, welcoming ways will be greatly missed. A celebration of June's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on May 9, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2324 Lombard, Everett, WA. June requested that remembrances be made to Providence General Foundation - Children's Association, P.O. Box 1067, Everett, WA, 98306.
