Kathy Burton Obituary

To my everlasting love and best friend, Kathy Burton "Oh my goodness…Roger Burton…you are as cute as ever…so much fun to see all the old friends from high school on Facebook." Kathy That one simple sentence on Facebook four years ago has changed so many lives…in such a positive …and tragic way…forever. My newlywed wife of three and a half months, Kathy Burton, passed away after a brief, but brave struggle with medical failure issues. God must have seen how truly great of a woman she was to everyone she touched in life that He lessened her pain by having the greatest set of doctors and staff members at Cascade Valley Hospital to take care of her right to the end. I know without a doubt that she's already in heaven. Kathy McRae was born in 1964 to parents, Ron and Claire McRae and grew up in Marysville, Wash. Kathy was one of the more popular girls (in a good way) at Marysville-Pilchuck High School as she was nice to everyone. Kathy lettered in Tennis and Softball and was a MPHS Cheerleader. Several years prior she suffered a massive blow when her Dad passed away unexpectedly. To this day she'd never gotten over losing him…but her stories about him sure brought him to life. In addition, her brother, Mark also passed away and Kathy never forgot all the memories of him. Kathy was also a Wrestling Cheerleader in high school and lo and behold, since I wrestled, that's how I got to know her. She was so perky and nice to be around that I never forgot her. After graduating high school in 1982 Kathy followed in her older sisters footsteps, Marta and Judy, and went off to WSU where at the age of 20 she earned her Education Degree "and" got her first teaching job all in the same year. Kathy also carried a K thru 12 teaching Certificate which is very rare nowadays. During this time she was married to Brian Cayton and had two loving and caring daughters, Maris and McRae. She taught and coached Softball in Federal Way and later on when her family moved to California where she was hired as a PE Teacher at Alamitos Intermediate School in Garden Grove, CA. There, she taught PE alongside one of her lifelong best friends Brodt. Three and half years ago I helped pack her up and move back up to Marysville. Kathy has been a Substitute Teacher for the last several years in Snohomish County. Kathy also got to be around her sister, Judy and brother-in-law, Randy, along with all her nephews and niece and friends. A Celebration of Life will be on December 5, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the Evergreen Unitarian Church Hall at 1607-4th St., Marysville, WA 98270 (old Methodist Church) with snacks and coffee. Debby Estes and Kelly Sparks will be coordinating the events on Facebook. There will never be another Kathy in our lifetime…please tell someone that is dear to you that you love them…right now…it just might be your last chance...

Roger, I haven't seen Kathy since high school but saw her on FB every once in while. She was such a wonderful person in high school as you said. She was popular but she was kind to everyone. I'm so sorry for your loss. You're right in what you wrote. Never take anything or anyone for granted. You never get over losing a spouse. For me, it was time. It's like looking in a rear view mirror. The grief lessens with time but it'll always remain. Take care of yourself.

Roger, so very sorry to hear about Kathleens passing. I haven't met you but know that this is a very difficult time. Kathy, along with Marta and Judy are my cousins, our mothers were sisters (my Mom passed in 2009). I have fond memories of Kathy, mostly as a little girl. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family.

I truly feel blessed to have met Kathy at Aunt Shirley's 90th b-day. She had a smile that lit up the room. Although we had just met, she made me feel as though I had known her for a long time. She was such a warm hearted, wonderful woman - a true gem! My heart aches for your loss. Heaven has truly gained a wonderful angel!! Holding you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Roger & family....even though I didn't get to see Kathy very often, we would talk on the phone and she ALWAYS told me how much she loved you Roger! For you to find each other was truly a dream come true for her! When I did get to be with you both, there was such a glow of love around you, it always made me smile! She is probably organizing fun actives up in Heaven already! Making people smile! Love to you all!
