Kay (Patterson) Hoffman RN
Kay died peacefully at her home on Camano Island, Washington, on June 17, 2005, from the effects of pancreatic cancer. She was born, Kathleen June Patterson, in Seattle, on March 20, 1934, to parents Yvona and Robert Patterson.
She is survived by her husband of 48 plus years, James Hoffman; daughters, Judy (Bryan) Snelling, of Jeffersonville, Indiana; sons, Daniel, of Sarasota, Florida, and Timothy and Jeffrey of Beaverton, Oregon; grandsons, Shane and Aaron, of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and brothers, Robert (Mary Ellen) Patterson, of Long Beach, Washington, and Jack (Merle) Patterson, of Stanwood, Washington.
Kay received all of her schooling in Seattle; at Olympic View Elementary, John Marshall Junior High School, and she graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952. Following her strong desire to become a nurse, she entered the University of Wash-ington/Swedish Hospital Program, where she received her B.S. in Nursing in 1957. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
The last 25 years of her nursing career she spent working as a Home Health Nurse in the states of Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, and Washington. One of her assignments led her to the Warm Beach Senior Community, located in Stanwood, Washington. She fell in love with the facilities, residence and staff, and after retiring from nursing, she became a frequent volunteer. One of her passions from an early age was the water, be it the ocean, lakes, or pools. Until her recent illness, she participated in the water aerobics program at Warm Beach five days a week.
The family wishes to thank the personnel at the Everett Clinic, Providence Everett Medical Center and special thanks to Providence Hospice team. Their tremendous service enabled her to be as comfortable as possible at home during her illness.
If people wish to donate to a charity in her name, she has requested that they be made to the Warm Beach Senior Community Maintenance Department for the exclusive use for the swimming pool maintenance and restoration. Kay requested that she be cremated, and that no service be held. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2005, at the Warm Beach Community, Beachwood Lounge.
