Lance Nelson Obituary

Lance Gordon Nelson, born December 8, 1940, passed suddenly on May 14, 2014, with family by his side. Lance grew up in Seattle graduating from Lincoln High in 1959. He was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 131 and later built custom homes with his cousin, Roger Lee. After he recovered from his horrific fall in 1987, he returned to work in the office of Commercial Structures, Inc., as a Project Coordinator, where he built the South Seattle Police Precinct, a great many restaurants and other commercial buildings. He was so proud of them all. Lance retired from CSI in September 2009, allowing him to spend more time with his family and precious grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Maui, and weekend trips to Long Beach with family. Lance is survived by the love of his life, Linda; children, Lisa (Patrick) Shannon and their children, Chase, Justin and Maclean; Larry (Yessica) and their children Natalie and Nicholas; Lee (Cindy Evans) and his children Levi and Landon; Mark and his children, Shawn and Sabrina; Angie (Rich) Armstrong and their children, Ashley, Tiffany and Alyssa. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sisters, SueAnn (Carl) Maxwell and Valerie (James) Raguse. He was predeceased by his son, Kirk; and parents, Gordon and Vivian Nelson. Lance's memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Noon at Terrace View Presbyterian Church, where Lance and Linda were married 40 years ago. The address is: 4700 228th St SW, Mountlake Terrace. Feel free to wear your Hawaiian attire. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Seattle Children's Hospital.

To Linda and the family ... We will always have wonderful memories of our times with Lance. Our occasional get togethers for dinner with Linda and Lance were always too short ... so many stories to share and so little time to tell them.

You are all in our daily thoughts and prayers. Lance will be in our hearts forever. Know that he is looking over you and loves each and every one of you now and forever.

Gone But Not Forgotten.
His ancestors, the Lee family, migrated out of Norway setting up roots in Ballard, from which came Lance, inheriting a great love for life. A dependable provider and father to many. His descendants live on to keep America beautiful and joyful in the Lord.

There was no one in world like our "Lanny" as my sister's and I called him when we were very young. We had very precious times together. Just to be with him was such a joy and I remember how he, Connie, and I screamed and cried when they wouldn't stop the "Bullet" we were in at Playland ...and going for blocks and blocks laughing and having fun helping him do his paper route. Also our teen years together and how he added so much spirit and joy to our lives. I'm so glad I got to see and talk with him at the reunion four years ago. What a blessing he was.
My deep sympathies to all. Linda Smith Woolman

I always liked Lance, and was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. His family lived across the street from mine until I-5 took our house in 1958.
Lance babysat for my brother and me, and I always had a bit of a crush on him, but as and 8-year-old, I was too awestuck by this handsame teenager to say much to him. That changed some years later, when Lance remodeled the playhouse in our backyard, turning it into an office for my brother.

I believe the last time I talked to Lance was at Laura's baby shower (for Bryce), and he hadn't lost that Nelson charm -- warm, friendly and not a afraid to poke fun at himself. I'm sure that helped him in his career, where he met a lot of interesting people, including the sculptor who designed the fountains near the 520 bridge.

Lance was fortunate to have a large, loving family, and my condolences go out to all of them.
