Larry Freidig

1944 - 2022

August 14, 2022 Larry John Freidig, of Lake Stevens, WA, passed away peacefully August 14, 2022, at the VA Hospital in Seattle. Larry was born January 16, 1944, in Center, ND, to Matt and Eva Freidig, and was the youngest of four children. He was raised on the farm in Center until his family moved to Bismarck. Larry joined the US Navy on September 19, 1962, and proudly served until January 11, 1967. He served in Danang during the Vietnam War. Larry received the following ribbon and medals when he served: Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He returned home to North Dakota after completing his service. This is where he met the love of his life, Christine Wald, and they were married on June 5, 1970. They moved to Renton, WA, where Larry owned and operated 2 dry cleaning businesses in the Rainier Valley. He and Chris had 3 children; Scott, Melissa, and Stephanie before they decided to pack up and move back to North Dakota to be closer to their families. After a couple of years in Bismarck, where Larry worked in construction, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD, when he was offered a position to manage a One-Hour Martinizing dry-cleaning store. Their youngest child, Matthew, was born here.

In 1985, Larry received an opportunity to return to Washington and operate a dry-cleaning store in Kirkland. Eventually Larry and Chris bought a home and settled in Lake Stevens. At this time, Larry became very active in the Arlington American Legion Hall. He found great pleasure working as a Chaplin and Service Officer, assisting countless veterans with their needs. Larry participated in many parades and did presentations on Vietnam in the local schools. He also enjoyed spending time fishing and hunting with his boys and loved to host his grandkids.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Raynard. He is survived by Christine, his loving wife of 52 years; sisters Vangie Himmelspach of Mandan, ND, and Marilyn Himmelspach of Bothell, WA; sons Scott (Becky) of Moses Lake, WA, Matthew (Abbie) of Snohomish, WA; daughters Missy Brown (Curtis) of Monroe, WA, and Stephanie Porter (Andy) of Snohomish, WA; 7 grandchildren, Tanner, Trevor, Joey, Zach, Makena, Dalton and Logan; and many nieces and nephews.

Larry will be laid to rest at Tahoma National Cemetery.
