Leland (Lee) C. Woodard was a father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world suddenly on February 21, 2022, at age 81. He was the son of Mike and Edna Austin, born on April 25, 1940. He married and had six children, Leland Marlow, Cheryl, Paul, Wendy, Dana, and Christopher. He's preceded in death by his oldest son, Leland, and youngest son, Christopher. Lee loved spending time at his stable with his horses and passing on that love to his children and grandchildren. They'd gather around the stalls and watch his assertive pose to glean from his experience. He'd sneak in a little humor from time to time. His grandson's favorite memory was when he put his hat on sideways and tried to ride an elliptical acting like he had a few skews loose. Most weekends you could find him either walking the acreage, playing in the mud on his tractor, or working on his truck in the shop. Perhaps his greatest undertaking was living in the shop with a family of eight, while building a home to fit six children on a 160-acre farm on Mt. Spokane. Let's not forget his day job, and feeding the pigs, milking the cows, butchering the steer, and plucking the feathers from chickens to put dinner on the table. He won many wars with the deep winter snows on his 45-minute commute up the dirt mountain roads after a long day's work to put food on the table. He later moved to Snohomish, WA. There he was a builder and taught his two sons his trade. Most remember him for his role running a crew at Sellen Construction, building skyscrapers in downtown Seattle. He will be remembered by family, as they watch his middle son, Paul, carry on in his father's trade as a home builder.

Grandpa, thank you for all of your knowledge of horses that you passed on to me. You gave me the greatest gift a girl could ask for, a horse of my own. Riding across Washington state are memories that will last forever with you Dana and Mom. I know you are riding Rawhide and Karissa. Your love for horses is in our family blood and is definitely in your great gradsons blood. Rest in peace and ride on cowboy.

Cheryl,
I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. Please know our prayers are with you and the family.
I'm not sure if you will remember me. I lived on Tallman Road in Chattaroy and my grandfather lived across the road from you. (E. O. Peterson.) I am friends with Penny (who lives in your old house now on Tallman Rd.) She is always saying that your family had a bunch of kids and can't believe there were that many people living there. I didn't realize there were 6 children! My sister was Peggy Mildes whom I am sure you will remember. Peggy now lives up on the mountain as well. We would love to see and chat with you. You can email me at [email protected] and we can make arrangements.
