Melvin (Mel) died unexpectedly on October 16, 2022, at the age of 73 at his home in Bothell, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Virginia Schweizer, and loving wife of 36 years Mona.
Born in Long Beach, California in 1949, he lived with his parents and siblings in the Orange County, California area until 1961, moving with family to Paradise, California and then to Meadow Vista, California in 1963 where he attended Placer High School in Auburn, California, graduating in 1969. He remained lifelong friends with several high school classmates.
After graduation he moved with family to Washington State, living in Lynnwood and Everett. He worked at Weyerhaeuser from the age of 19 until retirement in 2006.
Mel remained in the Puget sound area until his passing. He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather and made it a priority to surround himself with his children and grandchildren.
He leaves behind his children Damon, Darrel, Dyan, and Dawn, his seven grandchildren Mariah, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Ava, Arianna, Vincent, Dylan and great granddaughter Dahlia as well as his three siblings Cheryl, Linda and Ed. He had many nieces and nephews and life long friends who loved him dearly.
Our sweet Dad, brother, Uncle, grandfather and great grandfather will be sorely missed.
He met his wife Mona in 1970 and married in 1972. Mel and Mona were married for 36 years, he and Mona raised 4 children (Damon, Darrel, Dyan and Dawn).
Mel was a lover of nature, he hiked often and enjoyed walking any nature trail he could find. He was a quick wit and genuinely one of the funniest guys you could have the pleasure of knowing. His story telling would have anyone with him laughing until you cried, his sense of humor was truly unforgettable.

So sorry to hear of Mel's passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Mel was a good friend. We not only worked together for many years, and did many things outside of work
playing basketball, fishing in company derbies, and would often visited with him and Mona. Mel was a person who could keep you laughing all day. If you were having a bad day, he could brighten you up. After the plant closure I was transferred out of the area and except for a couple times lost contact with Mel. I will miss his smile and especially that laugh. He was a fun and great friend. He will be missed.
