Philip Johnson Obituary

Philip Edwin Johnson Sr.

Phil passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 7, 2008. Phil was born May 4, 1918, to Paul and Mary Johnson at the homestead in Victoria Heights, near Stanwood, Washington, on of six children.
Phil graduated from East Stanwood High School in 1937, playing on the undefeated 1937 state football championship team, on of the highlights of Phil's life.
He married Norma Elaine Peterson on June 14, 1944. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage.
Phil was a Veteran of WW II, first in the Coast Guard then the Navy.
Phil was a true gentleman, known for his friendship and kindness. He was no stranger to hard work. He worked as a logger, truck driver, and in the lumber mills, retiring in 1973. His God given gift was as a "caregiver", always more interested in others than himself. A stranger easily became a friend. Phil enjoyed golf and bowling with his many buddies. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, had a gift for growing beautiful flowers, loved cars and road trips, and spending time with his family.
Phil was preceded in death by his father and mother; his beloved wife, Norma; his companion, Eleanor Jensen; brothers, Melvin and Fred; and his sisters, Beulah and Eleanor.
Phil leaves behind his sister, Doris (Bud) Peterson; son, Phil Jr., "Jick" (Lynn); daughters, Linda (Mike) Henry; grandchildren, Justin (Married) Henry, Chelsea (Brian) Vandiver, Jamie (Jase) Wisdom, Breita Johnson and Sacha Johnson; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Andrew Henry, Coen, and Clark Vandiver; Eleanor's daughter, Donna Baransky.
Phil's family wishes to thank Donna Baransky, and his many neighbors for the loving care, concern, and help given Phil in his later years. Phil's family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff at Skagit Valley Hospital for their compassionate care in Phil's final days.
Phil knocked at the door of the great care giver, Jesus...and walked into eternity.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at the Freeborn Lutheran Church, 2304 300th St NW, Stanwood. Graveside Service at the Freeborn Cemetery (next to the church) following the memorial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Freeborn Cemetery Fund.

Very sorry to hear of Phil's passing. He was always freindly and well liked by all those he met, and also was a very good football player. Phil was a ball carrier and the fastest man on the team. Once he got around the end, he was gone for the goal line. He will be greatly missed by all who new him. This from and old team mate
