Phyllis Nowadnick passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and prayers of her family on November 4, 2021. Phyllis was born to Clara and Elmer Isvick in the summer of 1931 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She spent her early years in Jewell Iowa, and then moved with her family to Sedro Wooley, Washington, where she attended school and graduated at the age of 16 from Sedro Wooley High School. Phyllis worked in the tulip and berry fields as a young girl and enjoyed small town life in Sedro Wooley. Phyllis grew up in the Lutheran church and her strong faith guided her for her whole life. After graduation, Phyllis attended Pacific Lutheran College where she met her future husband, George. Phyllis majored in Education, earning her teaching degree a semester early and finished her college career teaching elementary school. Phyllis and George were married in June 1952. They began their married life teaching in Mossy Rock Washington, where their first two children were born. They enjoyed dancing and playing cards and purchased one of the first televisions in town. Phyllis and George then moved to Issaquah, WA, where two more daughters were born. George coached and taught high school science and Phyllis substituted for Issaquah School District. They were charter members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Issaquah. Phyllis and George found their forever home in Snohomish Washington in 1968 when George became principal at Snohomish High School. Phyllis taught elementary school until her retirement in 1992.
Phyllis was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran church and loved her church family. She was a longtime member of Charity Circle, and volunteered as a Stephen Minister, quilter, and served at the community kitchen for many years. She was loved for her kindness, wisdom, and love for her family, friends, church, and community. She was a great listener, and loved to hear people's stories. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, and sister Virginia. She is survived by son Kurt (Deanna) Nowadnick, Monroe, WA, daughters Jill (Bob) Tweedy, Lawrenceville, GA, Sara (Dave) Ferguson, The Villages, FL, and Gail (Jerry) Danner, Port Townsend, WA, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Aunt Phyllis was there for me as a youngster when Mom and Dad were with my sister in the hospital. Our families spent every holiday together and vacations at the beach. She and Mom were as close as two sisters could be and they made sure their families stayed close. She was a wonderful woman: a great Mom to our cousins, a loving Aunt to us, and Christian now living in Gods heavenly Kingdom. We will miss her but comforted in knowing she has returned to her family in heaven.
