Raymond McFarland Obituary

Raymond McFarland

June 1, 1926 - Dec. 4, 2008

Raymond left this earth and entered into the presence of his Heavenly Father on the morning of December 4, 2008. He was the first born child of Eva and George McFarland. Born and raised in Griffith, IN, later moving to Crown Point, IN where he and Lorraine raised their family. There he lived until 2006 at which time he moved to Snohomish, WA to be with his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva; beloved wife, Lorraine Grace; and brother, Melvin.
He leaves behind his sisters, Shirley Fetla, of Griffith, IN, and Sharon Woods (Chuck), of Griffith, IN; sister-in-law, Jean McFarland, of Sarasota, FL; brother-in-law, Charles Prosser (Donna), of MO; children, David McFarland, of Snohomish, WA, Lynnore Donohue (Matt), of Snohomish, WA, Mikki McFarland, of Everett, and James McFarland (Mary), of Iron River, WI; and grandchildren, Chad and Ginger Donohue, Matt and Stephanie Donohue, Aaron and Angela Donohue, Jake and Jill McFarland, Molly Hale, Alexis and Chris Somboon, Lindsey McFarland, Erik McFarland, Scott Ruesken, and Jessica and Justin McClure. Never to be forgotten are the smiles and tears we saw on his face, brought about by love for his 14 great-grandchildren. They were the joy of his last few years.
Ray loved to fly and served his country in the army air force, 1944 and 1945. During this time he met and married Lorraine Grace Prosser in St. Louis, MO. They were married 57 years. She was the love of his life. His career began at the family owned McFarland Lumber Company. He later began his own company as a kitchen designer and salesman, traveling across the country in his self designed mobile showroom. He became national distributor and director of training for a large kitchen manufacturer. He retired in 2005 from Kitchens by Gregory, Crown Point, IN.
He remained a member of New Elliott Christian Church in Indiana, where he began attending in 1958, and attended Central Christian Church in Snohomish since moving here in 2006. He had many deep and meaningful friendships. He derived enjoyment from his recent membership to Snohomish Senior Center. He enjoyed his work, he loved to design, he loved his Lord, his family and his friends. A man of moral integrity, hope, faith and love, he was a wonderful example to all. The gap he leaves is great and we will miss him.
Funeral arrangements include a viewing from 5 to 8 p.m., on Monday evening, December 8, 2008, at Bauer Funeral Chapel, 701 1st St., Snohomish, WA; and funeral service at 1 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2008; followed by a small reception at the home of Lynnore and Matt in Snohomish. Informal graveside gathering will take place at 1 p.m., on Friday, December 12, in Merrillville, IN, at Calumet Park Cemetery. Friends and family wishing to say good-bye are welcome to join us.

Hi Family,
I was very saddened to hear of Uncle Ray's passing, yet my first thought was 'now the brothers are together', and second thougt was 'now he and Aunt Lorraine are together again".
I wish you all could have been here when all the siblings were together in 2005 for what was their last time together. It was so special and I am so thankful to have been able to be a part of that.
The McFarland men have been honorable, trustworthy, respectable businessmen and family men. We are all fortunate to have had them in our lives and to have been such examples to everyone by living their lives for the God they loved.

I was so sad to hear of Uncle Ray's passing. He meant a lot to me...I remember the times we were kids. And now...I remember times we had...having him over, helping me when we got the house ready to move in. I'll never forget him or the good times we had. He'll be missed by all of us. A very respected and loved man.

UNCLE RAY WAS SO SPECIAL TO EVERYONE...FAMILY, FRIENDS. WHILE HE WAS STILL HERE IN GRIFFITH, WE HAD FOR DINNER...VISITS, AND WE DID MISS THAT. HE WAS ALWAYS A GREAT PLEASURE TO HAVE FOR A VISIT. EVEN OUR DOG, GINGER LOVED HIM. I GOT TO KNOW HIM WELL, AND AM BLESSED THAT I DID. I WILL MISS HIM. BUT I ALSO KNOW HE IS WITH AUNT LORRAINE AND TOGETHER THEY WILL WATCH OUT FOR US ALL. HE WILL TRULY BE SITTING AT GOD'S RIGHT HAND. HE DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO GOD..TO BEING THE GOOD AND DECENT AND CARING PERSON THAT HE WAS. A WONDERFUL BROTHER AND HUSBAND AND FATHER, AND GRAND-FATHER. WE ARE ALL SO BETTER FOR HAVING HAD HIM IN OUR LIVES. I HAVE SEVERAL PHOTO'S OF UNCLE RAY WHEN HE WENT TO FLORIDA TO SEE HIS BROTHER. GOING ALONG WITH HIS TWO SISTER'S. THEY HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. BUT I DID HAVE ONE FAVORITE PHOTO I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU. IT IS UNCLE RAY WITH BROTHER MEL AND SISTER'S SHIRLEY AND SHARON.
SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS...SORRY FOR ALL OF US WHO KNEW AND LOVED HIM. GOD BLESS.
