We say goodbye to our sweet, loving Dad, Bob Picknell, who was so fortunate to live a long, eventful, happy life! Born in Aberdeen, WA to Russell and Helen Picknell, Dad was the first of two boys and by all accounts a very dapper and spoiled boy! In 1942, the young family moved to West Seattle and lived in the High Point Project Housing, built for shipyard and aircraft workers during WWII. Dad met his first two best friends, Brent Davidson and Larry Gill, during this time. They remained close throughout his life.
During Dad's teenage years our Nana and Papa opened Pick's Ten Cent Store - a family-owned take on the popular Woolworth's chain of the era, complete with lunch counter and five-cent coffee! In 1954 Dad graduated from West Seattle High School and spent two years in college before he registered for the Army, where he served as an E6 Staff Sergeant. On June 29, 1962, he married our mom, Judy Brunke, at the Fauntleroy Church in West Seattle. From this day forward he worked hard to support our young family, and settled into a roofing career where he thrived and kept our family of five very comfortable. Dad loved the outdoors and staying active! He went fishing, played golf, was an avid collector and made a solo trip to visit five national parks in 2019! He was also a member of St. Paul Cathedral Parish in Yakima. He lived his life to the fullest!
When Dad arrived at the Seattle VA in July, it was only the second time he'd been admitted to a hospital in his entire life. He was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma (lung cancer) and in six short weeks he was gone.
Dad leaves behind his three daughters, Diann Thompson (Brad), Trish Kinney (Joel), Christina Huntley (Jason), six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his "son-from-another-mother" Warren, and many very dear friends and family who meant the world to him. His brother Gary precedes him in death.
We will lay Dad to rest at Tahoma National Military Cemetery at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of Fisher House Puget Sound. Condolences and cards may be sent to the Forest Lawn Funeral home at 6701 30th Ave. SW, Seattle, WA 98126.

My Condolences to the family and friends of Robert. He was truly blessed with good health and a long life and no doubt he will be missed greatly. I sure do miss my Daddy even today.
It is so difficult to have a loved one pass on ahead, but we too will also do the same soon, maybe too soon.
May we all be ready, by the grace of our Lord Jesus that tells us in Romans 10:9-11 and John 3:16 that we can have eternal life after this life we now live. May our God give you a special peace and great hope at this time.
