Robin Hall Obituary

Robin Lynn Hall

Robin Lynn Hall, beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on December 29, 2009 after ten years of intermittent treatment for breast cancer. All who provided treatment for her were impressed with the way she maintained an active and successful business and personal life.
Robin was born in San Angelo, TX on November 26, 1954. She moved to Okinawa, Japan where she graduated from Kubasaki High School in 1972. Over the next year, Robin attended college in San Angelo, TX, and Albuquerque, NM, before committing to the study of music at Brigham Young University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in 1977. Robin's first profession was teaching in the Music Department at Mont Harmon Junior High School in Provo, UT. While there, Robin expanded the school's music program to include theatrical productions, introducing a new generation to the delights of the stage.
In 1984, Robin decided to try a different professional path, obtaining her Master's degree in Human Resources. A Master's degree in Music followed in 1992. After working for county government in Salt Lake City, UT, Robin moved to Washington State to become the Personnel Manager for the Sno-Isle Libraries. She was also the Choir Director for United Methodist Church, in Marysville, WA. In 1997, she was named Director of Human Resources for the City of Lynnwood, WA. Robin applied her vast experience and commitment to the HR field by serving as Executive Vice President of the National Public Employer Relations Association, President of the Washington Public Employer Labor Relations Association and Distinguished Chapter Member of the Northwest Human Resource Management Association.
Robin's passion for life expanded far beyond her work. A world traveler, she explored many foreign lands. She was drawn to the stage as a patron or a performer. Robin began performing at age seven and over the years acted in many roles, including Big Mama in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Recognized for her versatile, beautiful singing voice, she sang back up and played bass guitar in a college all girl rock band. Her main focus remained choral music however, performing with many groups over the years, including Brigham Young University's A Cappella Choir, the Tallis Scholars summer programs, and most recently the Seattle Choral Company, where her fellow 1st Sopranos relied on her strong voice to hit high C notes.
Robin also lent her speaking voice to those unable to speak for themselves. An avid animal advocate, Robin headed the PAWS Action Legislation Committee in 1991, served on the Everett Animal Control Advisory Board, and was a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the Humane Society and the National Society of Musicians for Animals, among other animal groups. She had many "furry children" over the years who no doubt were waiting for her with tails wagging when she left this world for the next.
Robin is survived by her husband, Larry Rasmussen, of Shoreline, WA; mother Betty Jo Hall, of Yuma AZ, father, Charles Neal Hall "Jack", of San Angelo, TX; brother, Charles Michael Hall "Mike"; half-brother, Jim Hall "Pep"; nephew, Jason Hall; and many friends who will miss her always.
A celebration of Robin's life will be held on from 2 - 4 p.m., March 13, 2010 at Shoreline Unitarian Church, located at 14724 1st Ave NE, in Shoreline, WA.
Remembrances may be made in her honor to PAWS, www.paws.org, The Seattle Choral Company, www.seattlechoralcompany.org, or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, www.komen.org.

Robin was one of my first friends when I moved to Washington. Over the years, we watched movies, discovered vegetarian restaurants and shopped. Last summer, we experienced a river tour of Russia. I can still hear Robin's laugh as she watched DVDs in our very cozy cabin.

I knew Robin through professional associations and a little over a year ago I went to work for her at the City of Lynnwood. In that short time she made a difference in my life as she has with so many others. I miss her terribly and keep expecting her to come into the office at any minute ...

I worked with Robin for the past 10 years as a member of the Lynnwood City Council. Robin was so dedicated to making the city family a happy place to be. She was both a super professional person and a real friend to all of us. The whole city family mourns your loss and ours.

I worked with Robin at the city of Lynnwood and found her to be an amazingly dedicated, honest and fun person. She was great to work with and a caring friend. When she sang it was like listening to an angel. Beautiful voice. I miss her. I am so sorry for your loss and the world's loss. She was one of the best.

I sang with Robin in the Seattle Choral Company for serveral years, plus I remember one year she came to summer music camp (Midsummer Musical Retreat) with her friend Anita. She was always so cheery and nice, created lots of positive vibes, and always immediately made me smile. The SCC and the world are poorer with her absence, but thinking of her now makes me smile again.

Robin was my movie buddy for so many years here in Salt Lake. She also got me hooked on the Desert Star Playhouse and other theatrical venues. She greatly expanded my cultural life. It was so much fun to visit with her when she was in town and I still have the baby sweater she crocheted for my son when he was born. She and I drove to AZ one Thanksgiving and stayed with her mom. We had a great time! She was a terrific friend and I will miss her very much. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her husband and the rest of her family.

I have been serving with Robin on the NPELRA Board of Directors, and it has been a privilege to know her. She will be missed.

My first wife passed away just over 2 years ago as a result of breast cancer, so Robin's passing hits very close to my heart. May His peace bring the family and friends peace during this time, as it has to me and our four young children.

Larry and Family,

Robin was amazing. So successful, so caring, so dedicated to all her causes, so strong and forever optimistic in her fight with cancer. I will truly, truly miss her and all that she did to make a difference in the lives of others, both human and animal.
