Ronald Waltz Obituary

Ron passed away at age 73 on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Harborview Hospital after a happy and charitable life. Ron was religious and went out a Catholic so he was at peace in the end. He will be truly missed by his family who dearly loved him. Ron was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, on March 15, 1942, to Ellen and Newman Waltz. Ellen passed away in 1946 when Ron was only four years old. After his mother died, his dad married Marie who raised and loved him along with his brothers and sisters. Being the oldest of seven children, he excelled in his role as the big brother. In 1953 the Waltz family moved to Everett, Washington, and Ron lived in the Seattle, Wash. area ever since. After graduating Everett High School as Valedictorian, he served in the US Army in Germany. He then came home and completed college at PLU and Medical School at the UW. Ron ran his own family medical practice for 40 years where he made many lifelong friends and treated his patients like family. He had a deep desire to help others and loved serving his patients, which he did so until this past week. What set Ron apart was his care and compassion for everyone he met and his infectious upbeat and positive attitude. Ron's life was filled with hard work, dedication, family, friends, laughter, and a kindness hard to match. Ron was very adventuresome and loved the outdoors. He flew his own Yankee airplane for many years and enjoyed snow skiing, scuba diving, fly fishing, kayaking, river-rafting, and supporting his grandchildren. Ron and his wife, Katie shared many of these passions with their children by taking them on numerous ski trips and also an epic river rafting trip down the Rogue River that his grandchildren will never forget. Most of all Ron loved family and rarely missed a family event or get-together. Almost every relative benefited from his generosity. He was always generous with his time and attended every event possible to watch his grand-children participate. He attended countless baseball games, lacrosse games, soccer matches, swim meets, and volleyball matches. Deliveries of Christmas bread to friends and family was always a welcome treat. He was also gifted working with wood and enjoyed making items for others. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Waltz (1946), father, Newman Waltz (1982); grand-daughter, Corene Brown (1995); and stepmother, Marie Waltz (2009). He is survived by his loving wife, Katie Clack-Waltz; brothers, Tom, Jim, and Bob; sisters, Kathy Kerker, Daloris, and Nancy; daughters, Maya Olivares (Orlando) and Carlene Brown (Cary); stepchildren, Erin Reid (Jamie), Brian Clack, Megan Castello (Steve), and Jason Clack (Katie); grand-children Caitlin, Cari, Cory, Gillian, Jake, Jett, Quinn, and Spencer; and others considered "family," inc-luding Lori and Robin Lerner. All of us will miss him very much. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in memory of Ron can be made to Children's Hospital. Katie is welcoming all family and friends to a celebration of Ron's life. Please contact the family for service arrangements.

Still missing you, Ronnie. Youve ruined us for other doctors, because none of them even come close to the level of care and caring you gave your patients. We miss your friendship even more. The world still just doesnt seem right without you in it.

We often think of Ron especially when going to our current physicians...missing his personal touch..knowing the whole family..his sense of humor and caring manner....my brother has yet to find a physician he likes...we can't say how much we miss him.

When my husband and I moved to Lake Forest Park to start a family in the mid 80's, we needed a family doctor. Fortunately, our next door neighbor recommended their family physician, Ron Waltz. Little did I know what good fortune that was for us. He took care of everyone in my family and even saved my life. He was incredibly competent, kind and was the most caring doctor I have ever met in my life. Our family will never forget him and we will always love him for the good care he gave to all of us. We were so lucky to know him and so blessed he was our doctor.

Years later I still remember Dr.Waltz's compassion and kindness. Dr.Waltz had diagnosed my sister-in-law with colon cancer. She was in the hospital and Dr.Waltz was there, I had just met him and we were in the elevator. I was visibly upset over her condition, when I looked at Dr.Waltz you could see that he was affected by our pain. I thought to myself he's the kind of doctor every patient should have. When she was in her last days, he came to the house. He gave her comfort and she hugged him and said she loved Dr.Waltz. Dr.Waltz was wonderful with all of us when she passed.
Dr.Waltz continued to be my brother's doctor till his passing. May his family find comfort in the knowledge that Dr.Waltz touched so many and was a great doctor and wonderful person.

Yesterday I called the office and was told about the death of Dr. Waltz. For most of the last 18 years I have been his patient. My deceased wife had also been his patient. My wife passed away in our home from cancer in 2001. Dr. Waltz had come into my home to visit Norma before she passed way. I have countless memories of similiar situations if which Dr. Waltz demonstrated his care, compassion, and humanity.

Dr. Waltz was a brilliant physician and a incredible human being. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Dr. Waltz was my son's doctor from the day my son was born. Dr. Waltz saw him through highschool, college, and in to the Army. Boys don't like going to doctors, but Dr. Waltz was that kind of doctor that no minded having to go see. I would stop in occasionally to say hello, and he always asked how my son was doing. I had popped in to his office Friday to say hi and show off the most recent pictures of my son in the Army - to let him know that things are going well. How shocked and sad I was to hear of him passing so tragically. How fortunate we have all been to have known him. I bet he is in heaven swapping stories with my grandparents - after all, he was their doctor as well.

Ron was an old-time Doctor that thrived in the modern world. His enthusiasm, compassion and dedication were unparalleled. I know from our conversations during my semi-annual FAA flight physicals that he thoroughly enjoyed life. You will be missed Ron.

Dr Waltz was our family Doc for many years....and a friend...my 86 year old mother knew him when he was a young resident at the University of Washington..and he was a particular favorite of hers. He never failed asking after her on my appointments..he was a true old fashioned family Dr....of which there are few if any left. He saw my brothers children grow from babies to college students always there for the sniffle or owee... broken bones and serious illness.
A friend that was caring for you, good with a joke, deeply passionate about his patients, he always had time. Now days that is rare in a world of digital and computer and hurry hurry...he always had time.He will be truley missed more then I can say...we loved him. My thoughts and prayers to his family in the loss of such a wonderful man.He spoke of his wife with love often on my appointments and told stories of the latest adventures in the outdoors. He was a warm and dear man.

I first met Ron at my sisters wedding, he walked with me down the isle. After that he became my Dr, but he was more than just that. He always talked about our boat that he borrowed to go crabbing. He was always energetic and happy and he loved his family and he always talked about the trips with Katie and his grandsons baseball career...

I will miss him dearly, we was a wonderful Dr. but even more he was one of the few that I called friend.

I learned the sad news today of Ron's passing. My deepest condolences go out to his devoted wife, Katie, and to Erin, Brian, Megan and Jason, whom I miss and will always adore. I will always be indebted to Ron. While on a rafting trip on the Deschutes River, I was so grateful Ron was there to yank my shoulder back into place when I dislocated it while kayaking. He really saved my bacon that day. What a great, kind and loving man he was!

Dr Waltz was my family doctor for many years. He was the best doctor ever. He was the best listener, and had such a wonderful calling to helping people with their health.
He was a gentle man, and how wonderful he is in heaven! Heaven has a new angel. God bless you for all the wonderful work you did for your patients!

I just found out of my cousin Ron's death today. My sincere condolences to his family. I had one of the most memorable summers of my life back in 1978 when my parents & I visited our "West Coast relatives". Ron took us up in his plane, giving us a birds eye view of the beauty of Washington State. I got to attend a summer camp with his daughters. It is a time forever etched in my memory.

Dr. Waltz will be missed dearly here at Sherman Optical. He came in on a regular basis to satisfy his sweet tooth. Often grabbing a piece of licorice and even would drop off a tub of red vines time to time as a pay off. He was the down to earth doctor that was very easy to talk to. We will miss your presence greatly Dr. Waltz.
