Ross Venema Obituary

Ross Gerrard Venema, born February 25, 1954 in Seattle, passed away on October 15, 2023 after a tough battle with cancer. Ross leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Jenifer, his daughter Kristen Venema, son Kyle Venema, daughter Karyn Davis (Chris), son Nick Venema (Natasha), and daughter Lauren Venema (Dakota). He also leaves behind granddaughters Lilly, Ava and Ruby, and grandson, Aaydin. He was proceeded in death by his parents Walter and Anita and his brothers, Craig and Todd.

Ross grew up in the Wedgewood neighborhood of Seattle and graduated from Ingraham High School in 1972. After high school Ross honorably served in the US Army, attended college, and eventually settled on a career in Insurance in 1985, when he founded The Ross Venema Agency - a successful business he ran for the remainder of his life. However, Ross focused most of his time on his family. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children with numerous family camping and fishing trips, hikes, clam digging, and summers spent on Camano Island. Ross had a strong connection with nature and loved bird watching, star gazing, and gardening. He was very handy with tools and enjoyed woodworking, and always loved a DIY project at home with Jenifer or with his kids. Ross spent years coaching youth sports teams, rooting on his kids and grandkids at games, volunteering in schools and chaperoning school field trips. Most recently Ross spent his summers working as Fire Support on the wildfires in Washington State. He was fascinated by true crime and could always fill you in on the details of a high-profile case in the news. Ross was a big sports fan, and could often be found rooting for the Huskies, watching a game on the couch, or playing a round of golf. Ross had the best sense of humor and had inside jokes spanning decades with family and friends. He could always bring a smile to even the saddest face and no one was a stranger in Ross's eyes. He will be deeply missed by all who know and love him.

Celebration of Life will be held for Ross on Saturday, November 4th, at 2pm at the Camano Country Club - 1243 Beach Drive, Camano Island. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Shriners or the Wounded Warrior Project on Ross's behalf.

Ross and I spent many hours playing cards in Pusan Korea. We teamed up against 2 Sergeants playing Hearts. They would cheat and we would buy one of them a beer and their codes went away as they drank more. We played for penneys and we ended up with a pile. Love you man.
