Walter Polzin Obituary

Polzin, Walter J. August 26, 1928 - January 27, 2009 Walter James Polzin, age 80, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 27, 2009, with his beloved wife, Movane at his side. Walt was born, August 26, 1928 in Mankato, Minnesota and attended schools there. His family moved to Minneapolis, where he graduated from West High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 8th Army in the occupation of Japan after World War II. He then attended the University of Minnesota, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was employed at Honeywell, Inc. for over 25 years as a senior research technician in Research and Development. After retirement he participated in activities of the Retired Honeywell Employees Luncheon Club. Walt moved to California when he met and married Movane, a long time resident of Modesto over 16 years ago. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and particularly the shooting activities of sporting clays, skeet and trap, usually with good friends at the Old Fishermen's Club. Walt and Movane traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Europe, Hawaii and Tahiti. There were many trips to Minnesota to gather with family and dear friends. He was a true sportsman and a true gentleman...his heartly laugh and love of life will be remembered by all who knew him. Walt is survived by his wife, Movane; sons Ronald and James (Deanna); grandson, Ryan, plus nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gail and his sister, Shirley Selchert. Friends will be notified of a Memorial Service to be held, Saturday, February 21, 2009. Remembrances may be made to a favorite charity or community hospice.

Walter, aka as "Uncle Jim" to his neice and nephews, was a reflection of strength within the family and a great role model. His poise, humor and common sense were prefectly put together to create a "true gentleman."
Our thoughts are with Movane, Ron, James and family during this time

Walt was our next door neighbor and was born in Mankato, Minnesota just like my father. He became part of the "Minnesota Group" out here. I'll remember him for his close connection to my parents and the joy and fun he brought to Movane.

When I think of Walt, I smile. His dry sense of humor was reflected in his reaction to my stories of marital discord would often be, "You are a braver man than me, Gunga Din."

Joyce and I will miss him.

We had the pleasure of meeting Walter a few years ago as we began cleaning house for he and Movane. We'll genuinely miss this "true gentleman", his joyful sense of humor and the smell of his freshly popped corn when cleaning the microwave...Movane, many warm hugs are with you as you sort through this sadness. Love, Mary and Sharron
