Scott Knowles Obituary

Scott was born to Bill and Shirlee Knowles and mostly raised in Tacoma WA, graduating from Wilson HS where he was a member of Dick Hannula's championship swim teams. Scott swam on scholarship at the University of Puget Sound, working summers at Mt Rainier and graduated with his teaching degree in math and science. He began his career in Shelton and then moved to Marysville where he taught various science courses and AP Biology at Marysville-Pilchuck HS. He coached swimming for 30 plus years developing a successful program that achieved many District Championships and placed high at State. He proudly coached his two sons. Scott was tirelessly dedicated to providing education and skills that would help propel his students into a fulfilling future. He played college soccer and had a lifelong love of the game and the friends he played with over the years. He succeeded at anything he set his mind to, rarely left a crossword puzzle unfinished, and loved to take on challenges and solve them, especially for others. At Spee-bi-dah Scott loved crabbing in his little row boat and taught his grandson Rowan how to identify keepers. He loved picking native blackberries, and planning trips. A Boy Scout, Eagle Scout, a soccer coach, a wonderful husband, son, dad, and grandpa and so much more.

He leaves his wife of 45 years, Sheryl, son Paul (Carolyn), son Bryan (Beth) and grands, Rowan, Alder, Lillian, and Natalie, and sister Carrie (Jeff). We are proud to have loved and been loved by him. A Celebration of his Life will be held March 29th 1-4 at Ballard Elks.

What an inspirational and delightful human being! Our son had him for a swimming coach in high school. Scott was always positive even with corrections. He always took one on one time with our son if he needed extra help.He not only helped his swimming skills, but also improved his skills for life. Scott is forever in our hearts and will never be forgotten.

I as a swim coach had the honor to meet and be around Scott through that avenue. Plus my sons Nick & Spencer were on the MP high school team. Nick was a friend & swam with Scott´s son Paul. My daughter Meredith Jenks Asst Coached under Knowles & he recommended her and she followed him in the role of MP head swim coach when he retired. She became an English teacher at MP. Scott holds special memories to our family. He will always be remembered!!

Coach Knowles was a significant figure in my life from 12 years old through about 20. Swimming was so important to me and he was such a great inspiration and motivator. He was a role model and I learned life lessons from him. Love you, Coach.

There are people in this world who leave only after they have left their mark. Scott was one of those people. Scott worked with every walk of student, at Marysville Pilchuck High School, and left his mark with them. They LOVED him. He wasn´t loud or flamboyant but he did have two dead rats on the wall in front of his class!!! Hmmm I wonder what message that sent???
As a swim/dive coach Scott was always looking for those kids that needed to believe in their own accomplishments and he did his best to get them in the water.
Scott will be missed by a couple of generations of kids..... he was their quiet hero.

This web site only lets us check one `How do you know Scott´. He was every one of those buttons and more!

Coach Knowles was an MP legend! He was an outstanding teacher, coach, and colleague. We shared many great conversations at lunch on just about any topic you can imagine. The world, and especially Marysville-Pilchuck High School, was a better place because of Scott Knowles, and he will be greatly missed!!
