In my life Sherrie Miller beautifully played the role of "Cuzin´ Sherrie." She and her brother Jack were the "big kids" in the extended family. My sister Jan and I looked up to them and always loved our visits to the Diebag house where Cousin Jack schooled me in the fine art of snipe hunting and we enjoyed Uncle Art´s boisterous outbursts and Aunt Agnes´ wonderful cooking. She actually used pepper! This was unheard of at the Dammand house.
It was great growing up in the footsteps of our cousins but perhaps our period of closest connection and the occasion for Sherrie´s transformation from "Cousin" to "Cuzin´" was in 1969 and ´70 when we corresponded while I was in the Army. It was then that I first realized what a wit she was. Together we panned the stupidity of the hot war, the cold war and most everything else that was going on at the time. How I wish those letters had survived the years. They so brightened my days and set the stage for a long-distance mutual admiration that we shared for the rest of our lives.
I was shocked to find Sherrie´s obit in the paper. But then where else would you put it? (Sorry, Cuz, I couldn´t pass that one up.) Socorra and I will miss you. Thanks for being my cousin, critic and friend.
Cuzin´ Ken
