Shirley Carr Obituary

Shirley Laverne (Hansen) Carr, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 18, 2025, in Post Falls, Idaho, surrounded by her loving family. She was 93 years old.

Born in Everett, Washington, to Helge and Irene Hansen, Shirley was the eldest of three daughters. She grew up in Lake Stevens, attending East Sunnyside School and graduating from Lake Stevens High School in 1950. That same year, she married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Carr, beginning a devoted union that lasted 68 years until Dick's passing in 2018.

Shirley and Dick raised their two children in Lake Stevens, where Shirley was a dedicated stay-at-home mother before working for many years at Tastad's chicken farm setting up buildings for day old chicks. She also spent several seasons in Eastern Washington thinning and picking apples and cherries alongside her dear friend Catherine Roaldson, living in their motor homes during harvest.

In 1986, Shirley and Dick moved to Camano Island, where they enjoyed card games and fellowship with neighbors. Their adventurous spirit led them to travel extensively across the United States, often with close friends Paul and Catherine Roaldson. Two cherished trips to Alaska with Shirley's sister Myrna and brother-in-law Gordon Strand, and annual visits to Montana to see sister Nola, were among her most treasured memories. Shirley and Dick also spent many winters as snowbirds in Desert Hot Springs, California.

Shirley's life was filled with simple joys-quilting, crocheting, puzzles, and games. She especially loved listening to music and watching Disney animated films. Many of the quilts and afghans she made were lovingly given away. Her warmth, humor, and steadfast faith left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dick Carr; daughter Cheryl Laverne Gross (1991); sister Nola Frazee Galloway; parents Helge and Irene Hansen; and mother-in-law Clare Carr.

Shirley is survived by her son Robert "Bob" Carr and his wife Dena; sister Myrna Strand; grandchildren Travis and Tyler; and Cheryl's children: Tom, Churie, Brandi, Rykel, and Nina. She also leaves behind many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 25th at Calvary Chapel, 9428 4th St SE, Lake Stevens, Washington. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and honor her memory.
