Stanley Mitchell Obituary

Stanley J. Mitchell

Stanley J. Mitchell passed away peacefully at his home on July 31, 2011. He was born to Stan and Virginia Mitchell on May 7, 1944 in Everett, WA.
Stan graduated from Everett High School in 1962. He enjoyed playing sports in high school and remained a sports enthusiast throughout his life. He graduated from Central Washington University and became a bank examiner and stockbroker. He became a Finance Manager for a department in the City of Everett and retired in 2002. Stanley followed the stock market in retirement and truly enjoyed talking about investments and market trends with friends, sharing ideas whenever asked. He also enjoyed playing golf and travels to warm sunny places like Palm Springs and Maui. A recent trip to Washington D.C. with friend Bill Lopp and family was a special memory.
Stan was a great fan of Notre Dame football and a highlight was seeing a game in South Bend with his friend, Pat Johnson. He looked forward to trips to Reno, especially with friends, for the first weekend of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. He followed horse racing and was a partner in owning several horses through the years.
Special memories include the family vacations during the summer at Lake Chelan. He looked forward to the Mitchell family Christmas gatherings, and with his own family, for Christmas Eve celebrations.
Stan is survived by his devoted wife of thirty-seven years, Anne; his sister, Sally Barnum and brother-in-law, Eric; sister-in-law, Nancy Young; his children, Mark and Lori Mitchell; four grandchildren: Matthew, Caitlin, Brendan and Briana; niece, Lesley; and nephews, Michael and Patrick.
Stan truly appreciated the importance of family and friends, and particularly his special friends through the years, Mike Dire, Pat Johnson, Ralph Brigman, Bill Lopp, and Jim Miller.
Facing health challenges, Stanley received wonderful care from Dr. Thibert, Dr. Congdon, Dr. Slosberg and the support of Shelly Egging and Sylvia Horsch.
Stanley has requested memorial gifts be made to Partners in Palliative Care c/o PHHC Foundation, 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 500, Everett, WA 98201.
At Stanley's request a private memorial service will be held at a future date.

I would like to share my memories of growing up with Mitch in North Everett. My Mom (Maggie) and Virginia were best of friends. Mitch and I graduated from Immaculate Conception School in 1959 and Everett High in 1962.

When I drive down Grand to see Dad, I always remember the birthday parties at his childhood home. His Mom always served a "money cake" and the party favor was always a wooden airplane. We would all fly them on the empty lot next to his house. I keep such a plane on my desk at home to this day.

I remember the many times that we would go down to his Dad's office at English's Ice Cream parlor to visit him and get ice cream as well. Stan was my only insurance agent beginning when I was in High School until he passed away.

My teenage memory of Mitch that stands out happened on September 24,1960. I tuned 16 on the 19th and Mom and I went to the State Patrol that Saturday to get my license. That night I asked Dad if I could take the car. He said, "don't take it past 41st or out of town". We were riding around and wanted to go to a party in Snohomish that night. I told the guys I couldn't take our car so we talked Brian Burt into taking his Dad's car. There were 8 of us in the station wagon as we came down the hill from Forest Park by Ball's Grocery. It was raining very hard and Brian lost contol. We rolled the car upside down in a yard one block from Rucker. No one was hurt. We all went to Mass the next day and often talked of how we could have been killed that night. Lucky for us.

It was the best of times growing up with great pal's like Mitch.

What a tremendous loss of a very caring, special guy. My condolence to Anne and the family for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I will miss his "just a 5 minute" conversation that would turn into an hour, which would fly by as he was fun to talk with, great sense of humor.
