Sylvia Davis Obituary

Sylvia Belle Davis passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Arlington, Washington, at the age of 90.

She was born on February 26, 1935, to Clarence "Cal" William Barker and Eve Rachel (Umstott) Barker, at French Creek, 20 miles east of Arlington. In about 1936, the family, including her big sister Elizabeth, moved to Everett, Washington, where her father sought work during the Great Depression. There, Sylvia enjoyed growing up in the north end of Everett where the Barkers eventually bought a home at 1822 Chestnut Street.

In 1951, Sylvia married John Patrick Thorsen. They built and shared a home in rural Arlington for 29 years, raising four children: Susan, John, James, and Janine.

Sylvia married Raymond De LaVergne in 1981. They were married for 15 years until Ray passed in 1996.

In 2001, Sylvia married James Davis. They enjoyed traveling in a fifth-wheel trailer throughout the lower 48 states. They were married for 24 years until her passing.

One of the highlights of her life was a vacation trip to Europe with her mother. Her hobbies included painting with oils and watercolors, sewing, making ceramics, gardening, baking bread, reading and playing with their dogs. For many years, Sylvia was an active member of the Arlington Garden Club and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly).

Sylvia leaves behind her husband, James; her four children; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and Lucky, the family dog. A peaceful memorial service was held at a family member's home with many fond and amusing memories shared. Sylvia will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
