Wallace Hublou Obituary

Wallace Francis Hublou

Wally passed away on August 1, 2013 at his home on the Clakamas River in Oregon with his family at his bedside. He had requested being moved home from the hospital rehab after suffering a very debilitating stroke on July 9, 2013
He was born on March 28, 1927 and the family lived in North Dakota until the early fall of 1941 when they moved to Everett, WA where his parents, Francis and Blanche Hublou became employed as teachers in the Everett School District. Wally graduated with the Class of 1945 from Everett High School and immediately went into the US Army.
Following the end of World War II the GI Bill presented an opportunity for Veterans to attend college with support and he first went to Everett Jr. College, as it was then called, followed by graduation from the University of Washington School of Fisheries.
His work career was spent with the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife where he worked in many positions. He was Research Director and on retirement was Director of Hatcheries. With his knowledge and abilities he was able to make considerable contributions to his profession and received numerous awards for this. After formal retirement he spent time as a consultant.
Wally is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Greg; brother, Roland (Dee); and twin sisters, Sharon May and Charlotte Bertsch. He was uncle to many loved ones in the extened family.
He is predeceased by his son, Cal and his sister,
Barbara.
His passions were his home and involvement with his wife, Betty in the Multinomah Athletic Club, Portland OR for over 40 years. Wally's other interest that he pursued, with great vigor, were skiing, Chucker Hunting and biking.
We will always love Wally.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on August 24, 2013, 2 p.m. at the Barton Baptist Church, 25400 SE Highway 224, Boring, Oregon 97009.

Uncle Wally, you are a true inspiration to me and all of the Hublou clan. So sad to say good bye! Hard to believe it has almost been a month you've been gone. Loved your compassion in everything you did! From playing the piano (hope there is a video somewhere!), making your own popcorn, your job, skiing, hiking, biking, handball, helping neighbors & family, keeping up your homes, many activities that I am not aware of, and especially your love for Aunt Betty and sons Cal & Greg. So glad I was able to see you a Whistler a couple years ago. You were amazing at skiing! And so funny at dinner time. Thank you! Will see you, mom, & Cal again someday in heaven. In the meantime, will hope to see Aunt Betty and your sibling more often because they are so very special to me. Love you & will miss your smile! Thank you Cindy for this guest book. You're a very special cousin!

Wally,
You are an inspiration to me. Your constant activity makes me want to stay in shape and keep moving. I was always afraid to go biking with you because I thought I would slow you down. You care about people and helped me several times without ever a thought of wanting anything back. I enjoyed talking with you and will miss you greatly. Your friend and neighbor.

To my Dear Brother Wally, Our family will no longer be complete without you but know you have joined our parents and your son, Cal, who you missed so dearly!

I hold dearly all the times we have shared over the many years.....at the lake with mom and dad, at mom's mobile home park, the Hublou Reunions at Deception Pass, the Thanksgivings at your home in Oregon, the cousin reunion in Minnesota, the Christmases at Roland and Dee's, the trips to Whistler, the times we spent with you at your home on the Clackamus River.

Most of all I cherish the many phone calls we shared over the last several years......you had become so open and willing to share and discuss so many topics and feelings.I especially cherish the last days I spent with you Wally, where I understood what you wanted without you being able to speak. Even feeding you almost a whole beer by the teaspoonful..... you so wanted that beer!!

Bon Voyage Wally and give our warmest greetings to Mom and Dad, Barbara, Grandma McEwen and Grandma Terek, and especially Cal.

love and miss you,

Sister Sharon

Dearest Uncle Wally, you truly have been the Jack LaLane we look up to in our extended family...the one who could out ski, hike and bike longer and faster then any of us. You were an artist in your orchard and property, a gifted pianist, a hunter and fisherman who never came home empty handed. I'll never forget all the incredible Thanksgiving dinners you made for us, no matter how many kids mom kept having! Skiing these last years with you has been a genuine treat...we felt so blessed to be invited. Your advice regarding our addicted daughter was priceless, your transparency and heartfelt caring so appreciated. You are so very loved and will be sorely missed!! Juli and Neal

To my wonderful Uncle Wally, I will always love you, and will cherish our many talks. You were truly an inspiration throughout your life, and your kindness and good heart will always be remembered. Your beautiful home, that magical oasis you lovingly created on the Clackamas river, is such a special place. Thank you for sharing it with us. We will miss you, our own "Jack Lalanne"; an amazing and unique man we are all so proud of. Our hearts and love are with you forever.
