Wally Trana, of Mukilteo, WA, was born on June 13, 1935 to Clifford and Marie Trana in Everett, WA, joining his older sister Donna. They lived on the east side of town, where he often joked that he had the longest paper route in the city of Everett. He graduated from Everett High School in 1953 and attended Everett Junior College, as it was then known.
He married Karen Gilberg in 1958. Wally and Karen spent their first few married years in Marysville, where he had begun his work life at the Weyerhaeuser Kraft Mill. But when the opportunity to work for the Atomic Energy Commission in Idaho Falls, ID, presented itself, Wally eagerly seized it. Wally's daughter Tracy was born in Everett in 1960, and his daughter Kristi was born in Idaho Falls in 1965. The family spent five years in Idaho Falls, a hunter and fisherman's Garden of Eden.
Wally thoroughly enjoyed his years in Idaho; however, the lure of the Pacific Northwest called him back, and the family settled in the Meadowdale, WA, area. Wally worked for the Branom Instrument Company in sales for several years until he saw the opportunity to start his own company. Thus, Sea Port Controls was launched, with offices in Portland and Seattle. After building two homes in Meadowdale, the Trana family found a house in Mukilteo that was to be their home for the next 32 years.
During these years, Wally also bought an old beach house on Mutiny Bay on Whidbey Island, WA, which he eventually replaced with a new beach home built by his long-time friend Dave Hanson of Everett. He also enjoyed a home in Rio Verde, AZ, a wonderful golfing community where several Everett friends also had homes. Wally cherished many good memories of his time with Karen and friends in that area.
Wally was also a world traveler, enjoying many cruises and other trips in the company of friends and family.
Wally leaves his wife of 63 years, Karen; his sister, Donna Palm of Kent, WA; his daughters, Tracy McCallum of Seattle, WA, and Kristi Coats (husband Jeff) of Edmonds, WA. His grandchildren are Kaitlin Coats (fiancé Francisco Castro) of Los Angeles, CA; Jeffrey Coats (wife Kailey) of Lynnwood, WA, and Davis Coats of Edmonds, WA. He also leaves his nieces, Holly Sturgeon of Renton, WA, and Leigh Ann Olinski (husband John) of Westfield, CT, as well as several cousins. Wally was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved them so much.
Wally was a member of Everett Golf and Country Club and Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Services will be held at Our Savior's on Thursday, June 16 at 3:00 pm. The church is located at 215 Mukilteo Blvd., Everett, WA, 98203. A reception will follow at Everett Golf and Country Club at 1500 52nd St. SE, Everett, WA, 98203.
