ABBEVILLE - Doris Crosby Boyd, 84, resident of 77 Noble Drive, widow of James C. "Jimmy" Boyd, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga.
Born in Abbeville County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William Baxter Crosby and Louise Hill Crosby.
She was a graduate of Lander College with an Associate Degree in Business. She was a retired Claims Analyst with the Social Security Administration. She was also a former member of the Abbeville Pilot Club and the Abbeville Cotillion Club. She spent many years serving on the Long Cane Cemetery Association as Secretary and Treasurer. She was also a member of the Abbeville ARP Church. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She will also be missed by her many friends.
Survivors are two daughters, Brenda Hill and her husband, Marshall, of Rock Hill, S.C., and Mary Jo Nance and her husband, Bill, of Gainesville, Ga.; one son, James Crosby Boyd of Abbeville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Doris Elizabeth Hill, James Allen Hill, Brandon Marshall Hill, Lorrin Nance Brown and Jo Anna Nance Baker; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Hagen and her husband, Harper, of Abbeville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at 2 p.m., in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Randy Ruble officiating.The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery in Abbeville.
The body is at The Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
